Trouble TTC

Intro

little bit of a lurker. I've been on TTC over 35, but hitting month 11 of TTC and dreading the next steps. I always told myself I would adopt if this happened but my SO wants his own children and refuses to hear about fostering or adoption.

I'm 36, he is 33. We've done SA, blood work, and HSG (plus I was a BC study subject for years, which required periodic 3 month stints off BC with daily bloodwork and US to confirm ovulation). Everything has come back normal.

My OB was certain it would happen by now, almost dismissive (most people assume I'm 26-ish when they meet me). I've hesitated on moving forward medically due to my insurance paying zero for anything related to fertility treatment, but it looks like that is where we are headed. Really just looking for better support for whatever comes next and it looks like this board is pretty awesome.

  • Hello and welcome.  This board is amazing and has a great group of ladies.  It's a great source of support so I am glad you joined us.

A lot of insurances don't cover fertility treatment which I find beyond frustrating.  It seems silly that they will help pay for people not to have babies (which is great that they do, don't get me wrong), will pay for a little blue pill so an 80 year old man can get his winkie up, but not help pay for couples struggling to conceive. So a lot of us will understand your hesitation.

I hope your stay with us is short.

  • Hello!  I think we are awesome!  Some boards highly discourage and even flame users for getting treatment through an OBGYN.  You won't get that here, your choices will be respected whatever route you choose.  The financial aspect of it sucks for those of us with no insurance coverage for infertility. I have a free phone consult with an RE at a private clinic, once I have a plan in place I know I can start planning, saving and even take out a loan through their financial aid department if needed.  Definitely shop around online and see if any clinics are offering free or low cost consults, clinical trials or offer financing.

Good luck with everything and I look forward to reading your updates!

  • Welcome! I hope you have a short stay here. Best of luck in your TTC process. Maybe someday your SO will be more open to adoption in the future. My DH was against it for a while as well, but over time he has become more open to it. He still wants his own kids, but he is no longer opposed to adopting a few as well.
  • Welcome! My SO is the same, he wants his own children... before we had his SA he was even against donor sperm if his came back bad (luckily it didnt)

I hope your stay with us is short but you will def find tons of support here!

  • Welcome to the board, I'm so sorry you find yourself here. I just joined recently myself but it seems like a very nice place.

I'm sorry to hear about the insurance. Do you know if your state has any infertility-related grant programs? I learned at my RE's office that New York has a grant program to help fund IVF. So it's possible there's financial help out there. Good luck!
  • @Bababatty I hadn't heard of any financial help for IVF, thank you for the heads up! I will see if there are any in Oregon.
