What solids are you sending into daycare?

LO still gets my milk and I also send solids. Usually I send in yogurt and fruit that he gets around 8:30am. I also send in veggies and he gets that around noon. So pretty much breakfast and lunch. Daycare (with my permission) has started giving him other foods (what ever meal they are serving the other kids). He eats it all. Wondering if I should send in more of a meal for his lunch like a protein and veggies. He gets puffs to snack on during the day too. He loves to eat. Over the weekends, I share my lunch, which is protein and veggies. Just curious what types of food other moms are sending to daycare or if they have them eat daycare provided food.

I send 2 5 oz bottles of BM plus 4 little containers of food. Today it was shredded turkey, sweet potatoes, brocollli and pears. All steamed or baked in large quantities and frozen in silicone trays. So what I send is frozen at lunch time still usually so she just thaws and feeds. Most of it is finger foods now and no purees.

  • I send in (4) 4oz bottles of breastmilk. She has oatmeal for breakfast (some days) and up until last week I was just sending her veggies. This week I started sending chicken and apple sauce. However, I think I'm going to go with a meat and veggie.

I do the exact same for my 11-month old. Solids are always one protein and 3 fruits and/or veggies. She also has Cheerios and yogurt for snacks as necessary.

  • @dmbfan46835 What trays do you use? I always send homemade purees when my in laws have her over the week, but honestly i think we're past the purees. I rarely give them to her at home. If i could make meals ahead and freeze, that would be great!
  • Hi @kkerner87 ! I use the munchkin freezer silicone storage cups but can also still use silicone ice cube trays if what I am freezing is kinda mushy. You can squish shredded chicken, turkey and beef into both really easily. Then I pop out and put in large freezer bags by food type (meats, fruits and then veggies). I made a huge batch of cubed zucchini and squash last night and smooshed those into both containers too. When he used to go to my old sitter, I just pulled the frozen stuff before work and threw it into the empty munchkin freezer containers and sent 4 along with 2 bottles of BM in one of the Medela mini coolers. It all fits perfectly! He's with MIL this week so I just gave her sandwich bags of all the foods so she could pull from those and feed him whatever she wants. You can also layer complete meals in the munchkin containers. I have done that a bunch too, like meat on the bottom, then sweet potatoes and then brocollli or peas.
