Hey all! I'm due with #2 in 6 weeks, gender unknown, and I'm starting to panic because we don't have names locked down. With our first, a girl named Emery, we used my MIL's maiden name (Emery) and my FIL's mother's name (Christine). This time around we are for sure using the middle name Lynn, from my paternal grandpa, but we are struggling with a name from my mom's side to keep the consistency. My grandma's name is Lana Marlene and my grandpa's name is Larry Dale, none of which sound like sibling names for Emery. I don't like the "old" names and really I am just looking for a variation of the names. Any input is greatly appreciated!
Side note: the style of names I like are Finley (girl), Sawyer, Asher, and Avery.
Re: Need help using a family name!
What about your mom's name or maiden name? Or any of her grandparents?
I'm big on family names, but combining 2 for 1 kid can be tough. Are you worried your mom will be offended if you don't use a name from her side? Or are you just trying to be consistent? If the latter I wouldn't worry about it too much - maybe just pick first names you love and use Lynn as the mn?
KRB22: My mom is Julia Ann, grandparents are Ruby and Elmer, Glenys and Lewis, and Ruth and Charlie raised my grandma. The old names are killing me! My mom won't be offended at all, just trying to be consistent since right now we're only thinking we'll have the 2 kids.
Bringmemylonswordho: We would be game for Lynn as a first name, just leaning towards middle name since it is a middle name for the last 3 generations.
Saywer (boy) also goes well with Emery.
We did the family-inspired name thing as well, and we also knew we were only having 2 kids. It's tough to represent everyone! We basically prioritized the new generation over the older generations. By this I mean we established first names we really liked, then looked to see if there was a family name for the mn spot. If there was one that worked well with the fn, we used it, but we didn't force it.
We wound up giving DD a mn from my mom's side and DS a mn from MIL's side. They have my FIL's surname, since I took my H's last name when we got married. The only grandparent not represented is my dad. If DD had been a boy, my dad's name would have been her middle name. By the time DS came around, we no longer liked that first name, and my dad's name doesn't go well with his actual fn. We just couldn't work everyone's names into the mix without going crazy!
Live Sawyer for a boy, or Charlie.
Baby #2 Due 3/7/20
or maybe Anna Lynn?
Of the boy family names, my first pick would be Charles/Charlie. Second is Larry, or Lawrence with Larry as a nn.
I think Elmer is too matchy with Emery, so probably safe to rule that out
