Heading to urgent care

so I got the call to head into urgent care after 24 hours vomiting/started fainting. Just wondering what will they be able to accomplish there? I have not seen a regular obgyn yet due to transitioning from active duty and on leave. Has anyone ever been to one before? Also is there any active duty military moms out there who have any experience with urgent care and tricare prime? Thank you!

Re: Heading to urgent care

  • I really have no good insights for you. Maybe if you're getting dehydrated they will hook you up on some liquid, that might ease the fainting. But while I'm in here offering no help, I'd like to thank you for your service! :) hope you're feeling better quickly.

  • I would guess fluids and Zofran.  I hope you feel better!

  • I hope I get something there I'm feeling really worried and sick of course. Thank you for the replies! I wasn't sure if an urgent care would have that kind of stuff available.

I didn't use urgent care, but my clinic did the blood/urine/blood pressure tests then sent me across the street to the hospital for fluids.

(I'm not personally military) but we left tricare prime remote in January. Are you still on post and supposed to see their doctors? If you've already left the base I believe you just need a referral from your primary physician. I think there's a Military board on The Bump though I don't know how active it is, I'm sure they could give you better info.

I sure hope you're feeling better soon!
  • I'm not near my pcm atm. When I read the tricare rules from my understanding it says only family members are covered not the actual service member. My pcm did give me a referral to the va but it's for tomorrow. Fingers crossed I can get seen.
  • You're the service member, you're covered. If you can't be seen at the VA you may want to consider an ER to be seen for the fainting and fluids

I got a bad stomach bug when I was pregnant with my ds2. I was vomiting and had a fever. They gave me fluids through IV and gave me zolfan.

I hope you feel better soon!

I had the same thing. They put me on iv to get my fluids up and then sent me home with a prescription for diclent.. whatever it is.
So far its helping but its not the life saver it has been for everyone else.
  • @mjsommer I'm on tricare prime (hubby is active duty) and we have had 0 problems with urgent care, ER, and ob/gyn. With tricare prime, as long as you call your region and get a referral to urgent care, they will tell you where to go and everything is covered. Now with Prime, everyone in the family gets two urgent care visits per year totally covered even without a referral needed, but after those two you will have to pay (so they recommend just calling the region for the referral). As long as you're active duty though, you should be able to go to the active duty clinic on post any time and be safe too. For me, everything has been covered. They put me on Diclegis for morning sickness and vomitting and thats all been covered too which is nice. Good luck with everything and let me know if you need more Tricare Prime advice! My husband has read everything he can find about what is covered for us on Prime.

    How are you doing??
  • So this happened to me two weeks ago and UC sent me to the ER. If your office (OB/MW) is open go there, otherwise ER. And they give fluids and zofran and possibly Phenegran, test you for dehydration/starvation and send ya home with a script.

  •  Thank you for the well wishes. Well urgent care was a no-no. They couldn't tell us if we'd have to pay out of pocket without the referral so we just went home. We are heading to the hospital today though in a few hours I have a referral there thankfully.

I hate how insurance works. You're suffering while everyone is sitting back saying you're not following codes. I hope today goes smoothly and they get you fixed up :)

    How are you feeling @mjsommer
  • Hey:) thanks for asking...I am feeling SO much better! Turns out NVP nausea and vomiting of pregnancy new term I learned can peak between 9/10 weeks. They said that is probably what happened. I have been able to eat small meals throughout the day. I still throw up in the morning but I only have nausea in the afternoon/evening. I lost over 7lbs from being sick and I still haven't had my first OB appointment so im a little nervous and I'm hoping baby is okay. We shall see I have a registration appointment tomorrow and then I can get set up with a health provider soon. How are you doing?

@mjsommer glad you could get it checked out anyway.  It's the worst! I'm sure baby is totally fine.  It's been proven that super sick mamas have a higher chance that everything is going okay.  At least that's what they always told me to make me feel better about all the puking I did with my DD.  You may also be having a girl!! They tend to make mom more sick ;)

it does end eventually!  One random day you'll wake up and feel great and forget all about it.  Sounds so impossible in the midst of it, but it happens!  I'm doing less puking this time around so far, but I'm only 7weeks ((approx-I've yet to be dated and cycles are super wacky with a currently nursing 10mo old)) so I still have a long way to go... Trying to take it a day at a time!
