@MamaBish My cousin can realistically afford one kid. Guess how many she has......seven. They are in a two bedroom apartment, her husband works a job that probably brings in $30k a year, she has a nursing degree but refuses to work because then they will lose all of their state help and insurance.
@LadyFleck I asked my doctor about the tdap shot for DH and I and his response was they will give it to us at the hospital when I go in to have the baby. I figure he has been doing this for a while, so he knows what he is talking about... but at the same time my brain is going "wait... what!?"
We're looking into it and getting all of our information ready so when H goes back Monday he's able to advocate for himself.
That sucks if it happens to your husband. MH took a vacation for the first time in 13 years (a completely unplugged vacation), and it was two weeks long. He went back to work that Monday, and was let go. Not only was he the top sales guy at the company, but he was bringing in anywhere from $250,000-$500,000 a year in sales....when everyone else was bringing in around $50,000-$75,000, and he was paid on commission (a crappy commission at that). When we had DD, he didn't even take time off work and was still working when I was in labor, and only stopped for a few hours when she was actually born (it was the middle of the night anyway, so there wasn't any working going on). He was also working anywhere from 60-80 hours a week.
He was pissed, but he had a lawyer look at his contract and all of the legal stuff, and there was nothing he could do. The company even tried to take all of his clients. Luckily for him, there was also nothing in the paperwork stating he cannot start a company that would compete with the company that he worked for. He started his own company, and all of his clients contacted him after they noticed he was no longer working for the other company, and followed him to the new company. He managed to keep a good 80% of his clients, and the only ones that stayed with the previous company, were ones that only made purchases every other year and they weren't that big.
It totally irks me when companies give you a certain amount of vacation/sick/paternity leave, and then you get disciplined for using it.
The confusion around the TDAP shot is so, so infuriating, but I don't blame most people for being confused. I mean, a pharmacist should probably know better, but the general public confusion I get.
I've had to explain it to like 5 people that the pertussis immunity from the shot or booster doesn't stick around for 10 years or even 4 years...that if you're going to be in close proximity with a newborn just go and fucking get it. It's really annoying to have to keep on explaining it to people, some of whom asked their doctors and their doctors also said "You're all set!" Nope, you're not. I wish there was some massive CDC campaign that did it for us.
This...I've had to explain to so many people and even my SO was being lazy about getting it. Everyone was fine with me telling them they had to have had it in the last two years if they wanted to come around the baby, but they had no idea!

I by no means mean any disrespect to your family, but holy shit. People like that piss me off. I absolutely cannot stand people who are perfectly capable of working that refuse to do so because why work when the government will give handouts?!
Why is it I can nap just fine at any point in the day but when it comes to going to bed at night I can't sleep to save my life. I'm on bath #2 for the night, drank my sleepy tea, hubs rubbed my feet with lavender, tried all my tricks and still cannot get to sleep. Shoot me.
