TTC after 35

Clomid question (child and loss mentioned)

Hi ladies. We have been TTC a second Child for well over a year. We had a failed IUI this March and a loss last June. We have what they call unexplained infertility. Before the IUI my dr suggested clomid but we thought the IUI was the best bet. Now I'm going to try the clomid but I'm confused how it works if I'm already ovulating On my own. Will it change my cycle? Does it force ovulation? I have an appt next week but I'm just curious about how it works from people who have actually tried it.
TIA

Great question!  I just started my first round of Clomid this month and I already ovulate.  My RE said that they are not 100% sure why it works/helps, but it can.  It stimulates the ovary to have more follicles than you would normally develop on your own.  In theory it could drop more than one egg so it would increase your chances of something being fertilized.  I did some googling, and on one fertility specialist's website it said that for those who already ovulate, those who take Clomid will have a 10% chance.  Another site says you have a 5.6% chance per month with intercourse and Clomid.  So that doesn't sound very promising, but the chance of trying on your own is listed as 1.3% to 4.1%, so I guess that is slightly better. There really aren't tons of stats out there otherwise.  For those who do not ovulate the chance is much higher.  But please take that with a grain of salt because I didn't do due diligence with researching this and just stumbled upon two sites that happened to give some stats.  My RE had no stats, just that there is a 10% chance of having multiples while on it, and I had to sign waivers saying I understand this.
