TTC After a Loss

TTC with implantable loop recorder

I know that usually the best person to ask is the doctor, but since it is my husband, he will probably forget or not tell me what the doctor says. My husband is getting an implantable loop recorder to monitor his heart for a possible heart arrhythmia. It's implanted under the skin on the left side of his chest and is about the size of a skinny flash drive. That's all I know. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and if it will be an issue for us to TTC. I don't want to be selfish or annoying because I know we need to make sure his heart is okay, but I'm ovulating this week and he might be getting one tomorrow (which I was just informed of this evening). I'm a little frustrated because if I would've known of the possibility of him getting one tomorrow, I wouldn't have taken clomid this month. I've heard that you can only do 6 cycles of it and I have problems ovulating, so I need to take it. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks so much.

Re: TTC with implantable loop recorder

  • Hey there, I'm sorry I have absolutely no experience with anything of the sort, but hopefully someone out there has something more to offer than me. Maybe he should take a little list of things to discuss to the doctor (ie when can I have sex again)? It can be so hard to remember on the spot!

  • Like @reneeannemm said, it would be important to find out his "activity" status. Do they know which arrhythmia they are looking to detect? As for the device affecting fertility, it shouldn't have any bearing from my experience. But you should definitely ask his doctor to be sure.
  • I agree that he should ask his doctor about activity levels.  I will add, since you are worried about the Clomid--my RE will let me do more than 6 Clomid cycles as it sounds like the research that was the basis for the lifetime max has been discredited.  So, something to ask about.  I know it's still frustrating to have a potentially "wasted" Clomid cycle, though.

  • I agree with pp that I'd ask the dr. I would imagine it wouldn't affect anything as long as he is cleared for sex but I have zero experience so that's just my opinion. I think especially since you're taking Clomid it's worth asking.

Thanks everyone. He forgot to ask (I knew he would lol), so I called his cardiologist and they said as long as he does not aggravate the site where it was inserted, we will be fine. Just took an O test today and it was a smiley, so as long as BD isn't uncomfortable for him, we will try.
