The drink they make you drink wasn't bad! I chugged it no problem lol, but then my heart started racing and it gave me a sugar headache with a touch of nausea but within half hour all that was left was a mild headache. I didn't know I had to tinkle for them (granted I feel like I can go on a dime now), and I have to tinkle again in a day or two.
How is this week going? ok, not much to report. Any changes to the GD stuff? none. I won't know anything until my next appointment in 2 weeks. I don't like that I'm not being monitored more closely. The more I think about it the more upset I get about it. I was never called by my OBGYN to give my diagnosis or ask if I had any questions. I went to the office and was just given a diet to follow until my next appointment 4 weeks out. The nurse didn't take me into a room, didn't offer to answer questions, didn't give me time to review the diet she gave information on. When I finally reviewed the information, I realized I couldn't closely follow the diet. It requires that I eat a dairy food item with every meal. I'm allergic to milk, so this is a no go. I am lucky to work with a dietician who sat down with me and broke it down for me. Basically it's important to take my prenatal because I can't get the calcium from milk. I'm going to let him know how I feel about how this has been handled at my next appointment. What's been your favorite part of pregnancy so far? Feeling her move. It's nice and reassuring. Least favorite? The never ending nausea. If I feel good I'm happy for that moment. It doesn't happen often.

@mkc3888 I'm sorry! Hopefully you can talk to your dr and ask for more support. Maybe even mention giving you a prescription for a glucose monitor because you want to keep track for yourself.
@MrsB627 I think I will. It really upsets me, because I know enough to be scared of the complications from not having it managed well, but not enough to know how to manage it very well. I also have a family history of type 2 diabetes. Thanks for the advice. Maybe things will get better once I talk to him.

Scheduled my test for one month from now and, of course, had a dream about it tonight. I dreamed I bombed the test. Like completely failed. The good news is, the results were completely unrealistic and I would have been in a diabetic coma of my sugars were that high, so here's to hoping my dream was way off!
How is this week going? Well, I officially got diagnosed with GD this weeks. So that sucks. But happy to have a place here where I can commiserate with you all and share support!
Any changes to the GD stuff? Um, I have it now? Haven't even picked up my glucose monitor or met with the nurse yet. Should know a little bit more at the end of this week and then I have endo/nutritionist appointments next week.
What's been your favorite part or pregnancy so far? Feeling baby kick for sure!
Least favorite? The stress and anxiety. First I was worried about it being a viable pregnancy. Now I'm stressed about having GD. And on top of that I'm now freaking out about preeclampsia, because GD and preeclampsia were my two big worries, and now that I have one I'm super worried I'll get the other as well. Of course less than 24 hours after my GD diagnosis my fingers were swollen when I woke up this morning and when I got on the scale I'd gained 2.5 pounds over the past week (when up to this point I'd gained 3-4 pounds the entire pregnancy), so that didn't help matters. Pretty sure I'm just bloated and need to drink more water and walk a bit to flush things out, but it's making me nervous about getting through the next 16 weeks. I really just want a healthy and happy baby (and mom) more than anything.

How is this week going? So far, so good. Weirdly glad to be back to work.
Any changes to the GD stuff? They tried to tell me to start Metformin last week, but I called back in, and they agreed for me to work the diet better. My few highs last week were ALL due to my poor choices, so I'm not sure why they just wanted to throw medicine my way. No thanks! I'm still waiting to hear back from them on my most recent weekly log. I guess they are still playing catch up from the holiday.
It's odd that worked for me in my first pregnancy with GD is different than this time. I couldn't handle potatoes first pregnancy at all, but can a bit in this one. I can't handle bread at all in this one, and could a bit in my first. I'm so thankful for pasta and tortillas!
Oh, and I had a terrible cold AND stomach bug over the weekend, so I was totally off my diet Saturday and Sunday. I couldn't eat anything Saturday, and then Sunday, all I wanted was carbs for comfort.
What's been your favorite part or pregnancy so far?
Feeling the babies kick, and seeing my older son adjusting to his siblings. Yes, there are two in there!
Least favorite?
I'm gonna list several because I can! Ha!
Morning sickness still hitting once a week, the inability to breathe deep breaths, and the constant need to pee! Oh, and I can't believe I almost forgot to list the rage from a few weeks ago.
Let's talk lancing -- am I doing it wrong? Every time I lance I'm winding up with a little bruise on my finger where I did it. I don't get it when I lance the side of my finger, but if I lance the side I don't get enough blood to test. Are the bruises inevitable or is my lance setting too deep? I have a visit with the nurse tomorrow to go over how to use my monitor and so obviously I'll be discussing this with her, but I figured one of you ladies might have some advice in the meantime.

I always prick the sides of my finger. I don't have bruising, but after repeated pricks, I get knots. Be sure to alternate fingers and drink plenty of water. I also wiggle my fingers before to get blood flowing.
How is this week going? As far as GD it's great but my 2 year old has an URI and hasn't been sleeping. So I am exhausted. Any changes to the GD stuff? I've been eating protein bar for my night snack and my morning numbers finally look like they are getting better. Hopefully I can keep this up and not have to go on meds. What's been your favorite part or pregnancy so far? I love feeling the little baby kicks and movements!!! Least favorite? This time around I have so many more aces and pains. The last few weeks my back has been killing me. After sitting at work all day I go home and feel like I can't move. Heartburn has been flaring up like crazy and I work up last in the middle of the night with a charley horse. Only 13 weeks to go!!!!
@simcal18 I don't have GD, just lurking, but struggle with low blood sugar all the time so have to check often- just letting you know that my fingers bruise easily be it the tips or the sides. I think it just depends on your skin. When I get my blood drawn my arms look like they've been beaten with a hammer afterwords, just from a needle.
@simcal18 - lurking... but diabetes runs in the family so I'm familiar with lancing. As AllyTheKid said, some folks just bruise easier. If you find that you're not bruising on the side, try a little bit deeper setting to see if you can get more blood there or possibly a more shallow setting when you're doing the top. My understanding is that the reason for doing the side vs the top of the finger is that it will hurt less (typically)... so if it doesn't hurt and get get enough blood from the top, keep doing it there and just play around with the depth until you find just the right setting
@JessK1014@AllyTheKid@bnsmith85 Thanks so much guys! I think I'm starting to get the hang of it a bit -- if I lance the side of my finger and "milk" it to get blood up to the site, I can get a sample without too much bruising or discomfort. I definitely still need to work on my technique but my fingers are looking a little less purple. I really appreciate the tips!
On another note -- is anyone interested in sharing typical meal plans? I got diagnosed this past Tuesday but they can't get me into the nutritionist until a week from Monday, so I'm in this weird limbo where I know I need to watch my diet and I'm checking blood sugar, but I'm still at a little bit of a loss as to how to do it. I know obviously that sugar and processed carbs are out, other carbs are limited, eat smaller meals and every 2-3 hours, etc., but I'd still love to hear meal and snack ideas that are working for people if others are willing to share.

@simcal18... protein is your friend with maintaining levels. A lot of diabetics make the mistake of loading up with sugars when their blood sugar is low and then it'll sky rocket up, then crash later. Protein will help you to better regulate so you're not on a roller coaster with your levels
@simcal18 I bruise too on the tops of my fingers. I also try not to do the same fingers but sometimes I forget and wind up doing it twice in a row on the same ones. I favor my left hand too because I'm a righty lol
@JessK1014 same here!! One more PB&J on whole wheat and I'm gonna loose it! I'm working a summer camp and there is no microwave! I'm gonna do egg salad this week and last week I had a tuna sandwhich once. At home I do a lot of chicken and sides! I don't know what else to eat since these have been my go to not to spike my sugar.
Re: GD Checkin
How is this week going?
Pretty good. Felt sick so my numbers were a bit high.
Any changes to the GD stuff?
I have to send my stuff to the high risk for review but I'm hoping no meds!
What's been your favorite part or pregnancy so far?
I love feeling the kicks!!
Least favorite?
Nausea is making a way back in at night. I can do without this lol
Side note -- hard to stay compliant today!! Ahhhh
