If you have this, what prenatal vitamin are you taking? I got Best Nest on Amazon but I'm told there's not enough folate in it. Wondering if anyone has a folate stand alone vitamin they take too? Thanks!
I take Spring Valley that has DHA and Follic Acid in it. Maybe if you edit the thread to "What prenatal are you taking?" You may get more responses. At first, I thought this was "mother fudger"
Thanks so do you all try to take a certain amount of folate a day? Or b12? I've heard so many conflicting thoughts on this. I take Lovenox but I also have another blood clotting disorder too.
I make sure to get vits with 400+ of folate and load up on the green shakes! Be careful not to eat processed foods as almost all of it has folic acid in the enriched wheat and that's synthetic. "Whole grain" options usually don't have folic acid added in.
Directly from my RE when I asked her if I should be taking extra folate Bc of mthfr...
"There have been recent studies linking very high doses of folate and b vitamins with increased autism risk so I don't give high doses anymore unless someone has a family history of neural tube defects or is on certain medications that can affect it. As long as you have 400ug up to 1 mg a day that is perfect!"
My RE is a very close family friend who I've known a long time and trust with my life. This is her input and I'm sharing it. I am in no way an expert, but I listen to her exclusively.

I have some thoughts on this, not trying to start anything but even with added Folic Acid my son was born with a neural tube defect (very mild form of spina bifida and a Sacral dimple). I would gladly take medication that may give higher odds of autism, then have a child that has the potential for a severe and possibly fatal neural tube defect.
I agree!!! I'm simply sharing the information! Take it for what it's worth! We're all just trying to make the best decision possible and I wanted to share information. It was not intended to upset anyone or start a problem.

@chickyclg do you have MTHFR gene mutation? Curious if so, by regular prenatal do you mean with synthetic 'Folic Acid' or with natural 'Folate'. Hardest part for navigating this is that there is a big difference in the 2 and most often are marketed interchangeably!
@Jparisi926 I was on a prescription prenatal + Folgard for the first 12 weeks while under the care of my RE but my OB had me switch to an OTC (I think I took one a day last time) for the next 19-20 weeks, and then was placed back on a prescription by the hospital until I delivered.
ETA: right now I am taking a OTC "one a day" prenatal + Folgard
ETAA: I realized I forgot to mention, I do have MTHFR gene mutation, as well as a couple other issues but I believe that's the only thing that causes neural tube defects. It's also pretty strange to me because his twin sister has no known neural tube issues.
