Can transvaginal ultrasound miss baby?

I had a transvaginal ultrasound done which showed me measuring 6 weeks 1 day, but the baby didn't have a heartbeat. The following two days I had heavy bleeding with clots. Had a repeat UTS 5 days later to confirm and there was no baby, so I passed it. However my OB's office and I have been playing phone tag so I'm hoping to speak to them Tuesday - just racking my brain wondering why they'd be trying to reach me??? Any thoughts?

I a sorry for your loss. Maybe they want you to come in for bloodwork to see where your hcg levels are?

I'm already scheduled to go back in two weeks for my levels to be redrawn. So that's why I'm not sure why they're calling. With my second ultrasound my OB said everything looked good/I passed everything. For what reason would my HCG keep rising? And what would that possibly entail? Thanks so much for all your comments!!

@awilhelm05 I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. The repeat HCG draw will be to make sure your levels are going down appropriately. OBs like to track and see that your HCG goes down below 5 (what is no longer considered pregnant). They do this to make sure the miscarriage is complete.
