When to do 1st birthday pictures?

I know this probably seems early but Remy turned 10 months old today so we're only a couple of months from his 1st birthday! I'm wondering when do you usually do the 1st birthday photo shoot? I ask because I considered doing it on his birthday but I know a lot of people who include a picture from that photo shoot in party invitations.

I was thinking about doing a photo shoot too because I want them on his birthday invitations possibly too. I know I want his monthly photos on display there so it'll definitely have to be beforehand. Maybe a week or two earlier? But earlier if they're on the invites

We scheduled our 1 year pics for 8/12 at 7 pm. His birthday party is 8/28 (bday is 8/26) so I wanted his pics to be ready for the party. Using the same chick that did his newborn pictures. I already ordered outfits for it too, lol.

Instead of sending them with the invites (unless you are putting that picture on the invite) you could send the picture with the thank yous.

Lol! It must be as cute as I thought then! So are you doing it for just the cake smash part of your pics? I kinda want to put him in that with khakis for part of the pics. And then do just one of those diaper covers and a bow tie for the cake smash. So many options!!

We're doing our first birthday photo shoot after his birthday party ... we're doing smash cake photos, and the photographer suggested doing his actual first smash cake at his birthday party so by the time we do the photo shoot, he already knows what to do and digs right in!

I'm just using his 9-month photos for his Birthday card, and will print off the 1-year photos for myself and family members afterward

I like to do them on my kids' birthday so it's more accurate however, I'm a photographer and either before, after or on always works just fine. Just remember to schedule after their nap times and meal times so baby is happy!

thanks for all the feedback, guys! I think we will be scheduling them on his birthday since it's a Friday and were having his party the next day. I don't plan on doing a cake smash for the pictures so no issues with that.

We are getting her pictures done on 9/3 and her birthday party is on 9/10. Her actual birthday is 9/9.

I'm doing it a month early. Seems weird but I am making a yearbook and sending it to all my family to write in and I want it done before she is one.

So just a recommendation for everyone- idk how yalls local photographers are but if you haven't already you might want to start trying to book them. I've gone through 3 photographers and at least 2 are already booked through September! Im waiting to hear back from the 3rd.

Same here. I scheduled 2 mos ago and she only had 1 opening in August left!

We are doing it for the cake smash part. His other 2 outfits are blue jeans and a button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up and blue jeans and shirtless cause I think that is so cute on little boys.   This onesie came in today and it is so freaking cute I can't hardly stand it. They have a Christmas one 8 saw on their website and that is totally happening this year.

my LO turned 10 months today....so 8 weeks to go! OMG!? 

Heres out timeline: 
first birthday party with smash cake and cute outfit at his actual party a few days before his birthday.
One year pictures the day of!! Cute outfits and smash cake also in the pictures. I have soooo many cute pictures of him(my D3300 hobby) that rushing his one year pictures for before party isn't something am interested in. My DH and I will jump in a few of HW pictures and this will be our Chrismtas card picture most likely. 

ALSO, smash cake might not be an option for us as my LO still can hardly take organic beach nut stage 2 food(apple sauce like)?!?!?! Sooooo having him put cake and icing in his mouth might not work...until I want vomit in all the pictures.

@lovelee85 maybe he can at least play with it and get it all over himself. I bet a lot of babes don't eat the cake and just like how it feels.

I've booked ours for two weeks before his party and birthday. My photographer is great at getting images in quick so I'm not worried.
