Has anyone heard of this infant potty training (potty training from birth to 6 months?) Did anyone try this out or know of the positives (no diaper's / less bed wetting etc) and negatives (bladder development / holding) of it are?
@texasmama2014 exactly. I had a friend who "poop trained" her kids at like 7 or 8 months. She would watch for their poop signals and then hold them over the toilet. No way I'm going to be on the ball enough for that.
@LWC1112 My niece was "potty trained" around then too. But then when she was old enough to actually potty train and understand she pooped all over the house and had accidents like mad.
In my work at an elementary school, the majority of the kids who still have bathroom issues are the ones who were potty trained super early. Regression is really common if you try to force it before they're ready.
I think you're referring to Elimination Communication (EC). I have a friend who was really into trying it with her kids, but I'm with most of the ladies above -- too much work for the parents, not much long-term benefit. In fact, the author of "Oh Crap, Potty Training" (the method we used with our then-29-month-old with great success) has a chapter in her book just about children who were "potty trained" this way. She basically argues (with lots of statistics and experience) that EC children don't ultimately potty train any earlier than traditionally potty-trained children; in fact, sometimes it can even be a barrier.
Yeah, I have heard of EC and do believe it can be affective. However, I so don't have time for that. It takes the parents being very very in tune with their children's bathroom signals. Many parts of the world also do it though- I just think in the hustle and bustle here it isn't super realistic unless you can devote every waking hour to it.
