4 months pregnant and cant sleep

edited June 2016 in November 2016 Moms
Hi, im 4 months pregnant and it has been weeks that i cant have enough sleep. Specially at night it is so hard for me to sleep eventhough im very sleepy. I normally fall asleep at 4am. Is that even normal?

Re: 4 months pregnant and cant sleep

  • When I was between 12 to 15 weeks I was having tremendous nightmares and I couldn't sleep either. OB said that taking Tylenol PM would be fine so maybe you can try that for a few nights to see if it will help you sleep.

Yes, I think it is a bit normal. Check with your dr before taking anything, but unisom has been working for me (the sleep tabs, not the gels). Also, make sure you're supported properly - a pregnancy pillow or even a pillow between your knees can help with alignment if pain/discomfort is contributing to the sleeplessness.

  • Yep, I've been having trouble sleeping too, and it seems from what I've been reading that pregnancy insomnia is totally a thing!

  • what month are you now? 4 months also?
  • OP, pretty much everyone on this board is due in Nov. 2016, thus in months 4 or 5. There's not that much difference between 18 and 22 weeks for most people.
  • I've struggled with this on and off throughout this pregnancy. For weeks at a time, it feels like I could sleep anytime during the day, but never at night. Sorry you're dealing with this--it's a pain. I tried acupuncture for this and, while it helped with other symptoms, it hasn't done much for me for the insomnia. Other things recommended to me have been doing some prenatal yoga before bed (youtube videos or if you already know yoga), making sure to take time away from screens/work before bed, etc. All basic sleep hygiene. Can't say if these have worked, as I haven't been good about trying them consistently.
