Switching to Sippy Cup?

My LOL is 8mo and the sitter is really working on switching her to a Sippy Cup instead of a bottle while she is there. when shes homehome , i do try to give her one when she gets regular food but I generally stick to a bottle when it's time for formula. what are others doing for Sippy Cup transition?

  • We're doing the cup for water only right now. I tried formula in it once (no clean bottle nipples and I was feeling lazy) and she just wasn't feeling it. She also ends up wearing a lot of the water but she still gets so excited when I hand her a cup. We were only doing it in the high chair but with summer I've started offering it more in the stroller and car seat when she's warm.

I think we'll keep bottles until we switch to milk but it'll depend on her. I do love the avent training cups that I can swap out with bottle nipples but still use the handles. I think that's helping her figure it out.

  • My son knows how to drink from a straw sippy but he ends up dribbling a lot of it out onto his clothes. Until he gets the hang of it better we are sticking to a bottle for formula.

  • I just offer some water in a straw cup with lid and she now can drink from that. Sometimes when she sucks up too much it goes on her bib. I offered a little BM in it today. I just use when in highchair. If not she BF's and 1 bottle at night. Until she is consistently keeping it down with straw cup at meals I won't transition. Prob around a year when recommended. Used a true sippy a few times but she wasn't liking it and I read a straw is better for the motor skills I guess?

  • What's wrong with the bottles? We do water in the sippy and formula in the bottle. He likes to play and spray the sippy cup contents, and I'd rather not clean up formula

Nothing wrong with it just recommended to stop using at a year due to dental/cosmetics like the upper palette. My dentist said sooner the better for the paci weaning and stuff. So OP is prob trying to start the transition.

DD stole DS's Klean Kanteen sippy a couple weeks ago and was chugging his water until I took it. At that point I got her her own and I put an ounce of water in it for the day, which she mainly just plays with and doesn't drink. Transitioning our son to a sippy was much more challenging!
