We're in it. It was pretty rough in the beginning. She was fussy, fought naps tooth and nail and was super grumpy while she was up. I wasn't able to leave the room for 10 seconds without her flipping out. Now, thankfully, things are starting to ease up a bit. But I know that won't last long!
@mestokes honestly she was pretty awful for about 2 weeks! The napping was the worst part. It took me longer to get her to nap then she actually napped. And once she was up, she was decent for maybe an hour then back to being grumpy. It was very draining lol I would have her in her jumperoo, high chair, swing, bouncer, and playmat all of which lasted 8 minutes until she was back to being whiny. It passes! Hang in there!
The biggest thing with leap 5 for me was that my son would wake up in the middle of the night SCREAMING. He has been sleeping through the night (7pm-6ish am) since he was 2 months old. Then last week he was waking up 3 times a night for about a week. Now he is back to sleeping through the night again. phew. It passes!
We also had the waking in the middle of the night several times for about a week (of course the week we were on vacation). We also just started the taking really crappy naps, 20-30 minutes most times, and being cranky and fussy any time I leave his general vicinity. It seems to be worse in the afternoons, so maybe it's the being tired on top of the separation anxiety. Hopefully it passes soon! I would like nap times back so that I can eat and get laundry done!
Ahhhhhh the grumpiness is so bad!!! I can't wait for this one to be over. Naps are short and when he's awake, all he wants to do is be held! I'm loving the snuggles but not the crankiness!
Super crabby pants today. He was NOT having his car seat what so ever today. He has stopped napping it in for a long period of time. So longer car rides, trips out of the house are becoming a little challenging. Especially when I am by myself. When he was an infant he could sleep better in that, then he would the PnP or bassinet. We can get maybe 1- 1 1/2 hours in it. Today he napped for 25-30 while I ate lunch with a friend at the Cheesecake Factory. The last hour I was at the mall, I felt like I was going to turn into one of those moms who would buy whatever the kid wants, just to get them to stop whining. It was downhill from there. Another 45 minute nap, followed by 3 hours of constant interaction, just to keep him at bay. Bedtime routine which is 15-20 minutes tops, turned into about an hour. I am so over today.
I thought yesterday was going to be a good day. She gave me a 2.5 hour nap in the morning. Thats never. Ever. Happened. But then the rest were half hour and last night was a nightmare.
@cali1710 That was us too. Not quite as long of a morning nap. We got about 1 hour 45 minutes. The rest of the day though it was short 30-40 minute ones, which made for a long day and evening. Bedtime took almost an hour to get him settled and asleep. By 8:30 he was asleep, but up within 3 hours with his first waking period of the night. Ugh!
Google Wonder weeks. Leaps are developmental leaps babys go through during a certain time. They go through 10(?) in their first 20 months. Usually when something big happens they are going through one
Today is our first day out of leap 5 I will let you guys know if it'a better so you have some hope for the end!! Lol
Thanks! Knock on wood this leap hasnt been so bad. Nights she wakes quite a bit but as for fighting naps and being grumpy, that hasn't happened yet. Were about a week in so far.. I just want nights to be better!!
Hmm we are apparently in the leap but it doesn't seem so bad. She's more clingy, but I don't mind that at all. She's been waking one more time at night than usual which I don't mind at all compared to her first 4 months of life being the worst sleeper ever. Hopefully it doesn't get worse though.
He had some occasional worse nights during leap 5 but nothing too crazy so hopefully it will be the same for you guys! So far his naps are worse today than all of leap 5 hahaha
I'm pretty sure we are in leap 5, so far he's a little more clingy, and gets frustrated easily but overall he's not all that intolerable haha. Sleep has actually been getting better, and we've gone from only 30-45 minute naps to at least one 1.5-2 hour nap per day. One weird thing is he started waking up ~45 minutes after he goes to bed screaming bloody murder, but goes back to sleep within 5 minutes.
She's in her first week of leap 5 and it's real too. I was in the kitchen, she was in the living room in her Bumbo and I waved to her, she cried out in a scream till I was in the same room. yup! Relationships for sure!
LO has been BRUTALLLLL the last few nights. I don't even know what to do. She cries and cries. Only wants to be held. She will fall asleep in your arms and the second you even bend over to put her in the crib shes losing it. Ughhh
@kaym6 how are things since being a few days out of the leap? We're out in a few days. I would like to go to the bathroom without hearing crying so im hoping you have some positive news lol

I have the same issue. She'll be out like like a light in my arms second I put her down she's wide awake and miserable. It'll take me another 40 minutes to get her to fall asleep. Last night it took 2 hours!
@JanuarysBaby1 most of the times I think it's gotten a lot better but then he will fight me like crazy for naps still! I will say since ending leap 5 I've seen a TON of his personality emerging so that's really fun!
@kaym6 We are only a week into the Leap and I can already see such a change in his personality. He's actually a little more silly and he laughs so much more. He's more engage and involved with the people who interact with him and for me, it makes all of the other stuff not going so great so far, worth it. Silver lining, for sure!
The sleep is still hit or miss, and I have come to try and not stress so much over it. The naps are what is the most inconsistent. Today, he's taken 1, hour'ish one and the other two were 35 minutes at best.
@teachmegs817 yes! I completely agree, he's finally started engaging other people when they're talking to him and not just me lol he is SO silly now! His naps are just so soooo so bad
This. I have been dealing with this for the past three nights. Getting him down for bedtime has taken 2 hours. He cries and cries and wakes up intermittently at night crying. In the morning, he used to wake up all smiley and happy, and now he just cries. I want the other baby I used to have back lol
I'm finding this leap very up and down. One day shes great at going down for naps/bed. The next shes a nightmare. She has fought bedtime for the past 3 nights so last night decided to make bedtime 7 instead of 6 and she was a dream to put down. Maybe we had her down too early? We will try again tonight. Sleep training starts a week today. I'm pretty excited to start...
Hm I don't know if this is a leap 5 thing or what, but now LO won't take a bottle while I'm at work. Luckily I'm only gone for a few hours at a time, except for Wednesday I'm gone all day. I'm dreading this upcoming work week because I'm worried she's not going to eat while I'm gone! I'm thinking about giving her the option of a sippy cup, but worried that would screw up breastfeeding. Ahhh.

This! It's so up and down and hit or miss on his moods. One day he is a dream and the next a total nightmare! This cannot pass soon enough!
We missed any of the problems in the 4th leap, so I was hoping this would be the same. But the napping has taken a turn for the worst. Yesterday, she woke up at 2pm, and didn't sleep again until bed time. We tried laying her down several times, and she just wasn't interested. The weird part is that she didn't get sleepy or act fussy at all. Today seems to be going in that same direction. I'm glad y'all mentioned the extra silliness in your babies. I had noticed it in mine, but didn't think too much about it. I feel like I'm constantly laughing.
@krrpe99 when my Lo missed naps she never gets cranky either. Shes a very happy girl. Even when she was sick. I just know if she missed naps, getting her to bed is a nightmare and she wakes up more at night.
With the napping thing, because I think this is starting to become out situation and maybe it might be for you ladies too; I think DS is starting to kick his 3rd nap. He used to squeak in 4, and that 4th was maybe a 25-35 minute cat nap around 4-5pm. He now rarely will do this and he's beginning to shorten his 3rd nap too. The last 2 days he took 3 naps. 1, on both days was about 45 min. to an hour. The 2nd nap both days was 1 hour 45 min.- 2 hours and that 3rd one is a short 20-maybe 30 minute one. I think he's gearing up to get rid of that last nap and have more awake time during the day. I would think that would mean his 1st nap may start to get longer than the 45 minutes, but we will see. Just a thought, because I'm noticing he's been staying awake longer and it doesn't even phase him if he misses a napping period. He's generally the same happy go lucky baby about it.
Anybody that's out of this leap have any updates? Naps any better? My LO is fighting me big time today. So far I only got a 30 minute nap out of her since 7:00am! She's so cranky. We're out of this leap Saturday.
We have 7 days left according to the app, but over all this leap wasn't too bad for us. There were a few days randomly where she faught naps and was really cranky (of course days where we were hoping for quality naps to get some mommy and daddy time!) but like most people have said there was a bunch of moodiness; cranky and tired one day, happy and silly the next. She is busting out new skills already and it's crazy! She's definitely showing more personality too.
