@karabearrr exactly! The nurse who took my vitals was like, "You need to eat! Baby needs calories!" I'm like uhhhh....
But yeah my doctor said it sort of makes sense why a lot of women lose initially. Morning sickness is a given. Even if you don't have any nausea, typically women start eating much better once they know they are pregnant and cut out a lot of empty calories like coffee and alcohol, so the weight comes of pretty easily. For me I've stopped drinking, reduced my coffee/soda intake, and drastically reduced the amount of sweets I eat. When I do have something for dessert, it's either fruit based (like strawberry shortcake) or Sour Patch Kids.

@em01092 and @karabearrr - that is very interesting because I am also plus size and lost 10 LBS the first tri and my doctor wants me to keep it off through the pregnancy.
@KatieJo1205 My OB said that she only wants me to gain 15 pounds at the most, so I don't know why she wants me to start gaining NOW. It's super confusing.
On a side now, I just got my blood results back from yesterday..super fast. She said everything came back normal with the blood work that I guess checks my liver and looks for hypertension. And she said I passed my glucose! So shocked. But she said I was close. She said that levels need to be under 139, and I was 135, so she said once again that I need to eat more protein and less carbs which have sugar in them (since I don't eat a lot of sweets).
I am plus-sized too. I weighed myself when I got my BFP, and between my BFP and my first appointment at 11+1w, I lost 15 pounds. Between the first and second appointments, I gained like 3 oz. So my doctor hasn't mentioned it at all because she hadn't seen me before to know I lost 15 pounds. My mom said that she never gained any weight with me or my siblings until third tri, so not sure if that has something to do with it. As long as baby is growing like he needs to and my weight doesn't look like it's posing a risk to him, I'm trying not to worry about it. I do worry that being overweight puts the baby at risk, so I've just been trying to be as healthy as I can for him since I can't exactly diet right now.
@DiFazette my midwife wasn't too concerned as it's only happened 3 times in 4 weeks. But she said write it down and if it happens more than 3 times before my next appt to call right away and she'll send me to a cardiologist.
To add to the weight discussion: I'm not overweight and have not gained anything at 17 weeks. My midwife today said she needs to see some movement by my next appt at 21 weeks but since I was measuring right and the baby had a good heartbeat she wasn't sounding alarms yet. But she did say "don't let it happen again". My last pregnancy was totally different and by this point I was getting yelled at (different dr) for gaining too much (8 pounds).
