IUI and spotting question

Wondering if anyone has any insight..

I recently had IUI #3 (6/13). Was not taking drugs but was monitored by blood and ultrasound.

I noticed some spotting 7 days post IUI, and tried not to get my hopes up that it could be implantation spotting. It was brown, just a little when I wiped.

But the spotting has now continued each day off and on 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 days now post IUI. It's never been pink or red, never turned into more.. not each time when I wipe but pretty consistently. So I'm pretty sure my period is imminent..

Although it hasn't turned red yet, is that a sign of a short luteal phase if I started spotting just 7 days after I ovulated?

And what is spotting like that a sign of if it leads to menstruation? Like is it a sign the egg is breaking down or starting it's dessent for menstruation or something? And if it's breaking down so quickly after ovulation, do I even have a chance of implantation?

I know a lot of these questions are for my doctor, which I'll ask. Unfortunately I didn't get around to calling the last couple days and now I'm sitting here Googleing..

ETA: I realize this could still be something with implantation but I'm truly not asking you to tell me I could be pregnant. Of course I'm still hopeful although doubtful at this point with the statistics I'm seeing when spotting is involved. I just really want to understand why spotting would start so soon after I ovulated. This was my first monitored IUI and it makes me wonder if my luteal phase is short.

Re: IUI and spotting question

  • I have had early spotting- like day 5 or so- after my first IUI. I got a little freaked out, but I think it was just some delayed spotting from being banged up a bit during the IUI itself.

Now, before I started using progesterone, I always spotted and got my period really early. Like, day 9. I did a bunch of research on what spotting before periods means, and I found some articles about it being a hormonal imbalance but nothing conclusive.

I have been dealing with short LP for about a year- progesterone certainly has helped give my egg at least a CHANCE to implant, if it even fertilized. But no luck on that so far!

But the best advice I can give you is to ask your doctor :)

  • Thank you so much. Will definitely check with my doctor and ask about hormones it could be connected to. We did blood tests but I don't think that was for hormones.. Not even sure what that was for actually!
  • Hi, hun! Sorry you’re facing this! But still I have got a few thoughts on the point. So, you know, as a rule, its duration is limited to a few hours. 1-2 days are in exceptional cases. My doc explained earlier - Implantation bleeding cannot last for 5-7 days, it’s abnormal!

Also a question as for your body temperature. How does your basal body temperature change? In the 2nd phase of menstrual cycle the basal body temperature rises above 98.6°F and stays at the same level for about 2 weeks. If implantation occurs, basal temperature drops below 98.6°F with a sharp rise followed afterwards. I'm sorry if I don't sound inspiring, I've been through lots of weird things and do not mean to make you feel stressed, just aware in the long run. So keep observing, hun. I hope you’ll see your doc soon and she’ll drop light to everything which is going on with you right now. Take care and loads of gentle hugs X
