  • TGIF indeed!
@reneeannemm I'm glad you get to spend time with your dear friend, it sounds like it will be a fun filled evening. Also, so exciting that the farmers want the recipe!

As for me. We are heading up to the camper this weekend. We were looking forward to a nice night to ourselves but that has been kyboshed yet again. We have not had a weekend alone since the beginning of May, which for us is a long time. Our friends have campers in the same spot we do and we just a found out they're going out this weekend too. I love our friends, but I am disappointed it won't be just DH and I. But it'll still be fun.
DH works a rotating schedule where he works a week away and then has a week home and during week nights when he's home we're usually busy and don't spend real quality time together.
DH wants to plant some flowers this weekend, I have been very much slacking on the flower planting this year, whoops. So that'll probably happen on Sunday. As I've said before, if it's not food my interest just isn't there lol.

  • @reneeannemm Sims 4 and Animal Crossing are two games that I have regularly played over the years. I have millions of bells in Animal Crossing, so now I pretty much just fish on it for fun... On Sims 4, I'm attempting a family legacy game that's great for when I'm up for a challenge.

This weekend is the Art Fair in Des Moines, so I'll probably try to check that out some time with friends. Unfortunately, DH works all weekend, so I likely won't be roaming around, taking in all the pretty artistic sights and yummy foods with him.

It's my best friend's birthday, tomorrow, and she's throwing a shindig at her house. They're moving out at the end of the month, so it'll be jarring to see everything packed up in boxes. It'll be an interesting summer to see them living at her DH's parents' house while their new home is being built. I'm a little envious that they're getting a brand new house in a new suburb by the end of the year. But they've lived in a small, 100-year-old house in an old neighborhood for over five years, so they've paid their dues and deserve a brand spanking new forever home!
  • @dubcompanion omg no way! I have 45 million bells in ACNL and I'm so stubborn - I don't want most of my villagers to leave so I keep playing for spite, even though I really need a break after playing this town for so many years. I made a theme in my town: gardens of the world. I have a tulip garden, a French one and Japanese zen garden. Was trying to do an English one, but it's hard without varying heights of flowers.

AND I am also doing the legacy challenge! My game glitches out and refuses to save 50% of the time, but I just keep on going. On the third generation right now.

@roper2617 Hopefully you can steal away some intimate moments!

@roper2617 hopefully you and DH can have some alone time this weekend even with friends there!
@dubcompanion sorry DH is working all weekend but sounds like the art fair will be fun!

We haven't really planned out our weekend yet, it is one of those rare weekends where we haven't committed to something in advance! I have my boot camp early tomorrow morning but then after that absolutely nothing is planned! Maybe we will finally go check out the big summer flea market that we have been meaning to go to! We can't go on the outer beach with the Jeep right now because it is closed due to bird nesting, but maybe we can still go to the beach any. Who knows! Only thing I know is I am desperate to be outside this weekend, whether it be shopping at the flea market or relaxing on the beach, I just need to be outside!

  • @reneeannemm NICE. I have 12 million bells on ACNL, and I am in a similar boat in that I play to mainly keep my villagers in town. I asked DH recently if I should reset the game, but he said I'd regret it if I did. He's probably right. I've completed my fossil museum, which was a big deal to me, and I'm working on completing the aquarium now. I keep failing though, because I never keep up with the game during the winter, so I miss out on seasonal catches.

I'm onto the second generation now of my legacy (almost third, if I can find a suitable partner for one of the sons). My short attention span makes me go back and forth between that and my "for fun" families. I've played The Sims since the original, and this is the first legacy challenge I'm taking on.
  • @reneeannemm your friend sounds a lot like my friend! She is also flighty but fun to be around and she went to college in the UK. How interesting!

@roper2617 have fun camping! I wish we had a camper...it's tent camping for us! Sorry you won't get to be alone with DH all weekend but hopefully your friends will be respectful of your limited time together and give you some alone time.

@dubcompanion I love art fairs! That sounds like fun. Sorry DH is working all weekend. My DH goes out of town a lot and I know what it's like to get stuck doing things on your own.

DH is finally back from a work trip (he came home last night) so I am excited to spend time with him. It looks like he will have the weekend off too which rarely occurs. He is going to run to an open house with his mom and I am going to my mom's to spend time with my brother and niece. My little home town has a summer festival this weekend and we plan on swimming in my mom's pool, walking to the festival, and then watching the fireworks at night. DH will meet me back at my mom's house and will spend time with us too. I am supposed to go to a baby shower for my niece's aunt but I'm really struggling with it. She has two babies and didn't want another. She was using an IUC and I guess it malfunctioned and she ended up pregnant. Must be nice. I can't get pregnant will all of the planning in the world and she gets pregnant on birth control. I know I shouldn't be bitter but I'm thinking of just sending a gift and skipping out. I'd rather spend time with DH.

Anyways, enough of being a downer. I am actually really looking forward to this weekend and enjoying our beautiful weather!

  • @reneeannemm your bbq with your friend sounds fun!
@roper2617 i totally understand your disappointment and wanting some alone time with DH. I hope you guys can find some time to hang out just the 2 of you.
@dubcompanion have fun at the Art fair!
@lilylover27 I hope you find some fun outdoor activities for the weekend, it's supposed to be gorgeous weather.
@MooFish2364 your plans sound lovely, I don't blame you for wanting to skip the shower.

this weekend is quite busy for me. I'm having dinner with my parents tonight, tomorrow is family day at DH's school, followed by DHs friends bbq, followed by heading out to the beach since DHs family is in town. We will probably stay late at the beach sunday night and then drive home which will make next week more hectic but that's ok. I usually like having low key weekends to prepare for the week but everything this weekend will be fun and worth it. and of course we need to find time to bd  :D

  • @Reneeannemm Have fun at your bbq! Hope you get some rest :)
@roper2617 Have a great time camping!
    @dubcompanion I love art fairs!
@lilylover27 Being at the beach sounds awesome! I am jealous.
@MooFish2364 Enjoy time with your DH!
@brooklyngirl18 Sounds like you have a fun filled weekend planned!

For me, no real plans this weekend. I have to work on Saturday and Sunday (I work at a hospital so unfortunately have to work weekends every couple months) so it kind of puts a damper on our activities. Have a big honey do list for DH to do while I'm at work ;) I don't mind not really doing anything once in awhile because our July weekends are going to be pretty busy!!

  • DH and I are going away for the weekend. We are staying at a hotel with a Waterpark so I am excited about that. Looks like tomorrow is O day so lots of vacation BDing for us!  ;)
  • @reneeannemm I hope you have a great visit with your friend! Your recipes always sound so good and are inspiring me to maybe invite a friend over for a delicious lunch now and then, once we get the house set up, since I love cooking, too :)

@roper2617 too funny, that's exactly how I feel about gardens! We don't get to do a garden this year because of the move but when we were talking about it DH was talking about flowers and I said if I couldn't eat it, I wasn't interested! Bless him; he then started googling "edible flowers" lol

@dubcompanion enjoy the art fair and your friend's birthday!

@lilylover27 I hope you get to the flea market and/or the beach!

@MooFish2364 hooray for DH being back! But boo for the baby shower; I'd have a hard time with that one, too :(

@brooklyngirl18 good luck with your busy weekend and finding time to BD!!

Well, DH was only able to contact me once this week to tell me that he'll be back Saturday instead of today. I have no idea what time and things tend to change a lot anyways so it could even be today but I doubt it lol Regardless, I'm looking forward to him being home, it's the first trip he's been on without any cell signal or wifi!

As for plans, I imagine it will be more unpacking and setting up the new house. I can't wait til we actually get to do something fun on a weekend again! He should get Monday off, too, so maybe we can squeeze something fun in there. If not, just some alone/intimate time will be nice :)

Today I'm going to work on the kitchen a bit more and then on destressing. I don't know if it's since the mc or the break-in or a combination but I've just felt angry a lot more recently and I'm not typically an angry person. It's happened after traumas in the past so I'm going to work on it!
  • @reneeannemm The Sims and Animal Crossing are two of my favorite game series of all time. The third one for me is Harvest Moon. They tend to get neglected during the school year and then I play a ton in the summer. I think I need to pick one for tomorrow when DH is at work! That being said, I'm so impressed with your dedication, because I have never kept a town for anywhere close to that long before in AC. And while I have done generations in the Sims, I've never taken on the legacy challenge. Too daunting.

Today I am at a coworkers house. We're going to go swimming when we stop being lazy.

Tomorrow I am gaming while DH is at work, and then we're going to see a movie with my friend and her fiancé, and my SIL and her fiancé.

Sunday I'm hoping is just a day for DH and I to finally relax together because our schedules have been completely opposite in terms of who's home and who's working over the last week and a half. I want to do a big summer clean but we'll see how the day goes.

  • @Spartanrd4 sorry you have to work this weekend! Hope your shifts go smoothly!

@allysondunn2 I haven't been to a waterpark in a while! Have fun there AND BDing ;)
  • @reneeannemm - how great to get such wonderful feedback from the farmers. You recipes always sound delicious.
@roper2617 - camping sounds like fun!
@dubcompanion - the art fair sounds like fun - I love stuff like that!
@lilylover27 - I love free weekends. Have fun with whatever you decide to do!
@MooFish2364 -Im sorry you have a baby shower this weekend and the circumstances of that one seem particularly rough. I know I would have a hard time with that.
@brooklyngirl18 - I know it can be so hard to BD when you are busy, lol!
@allysondunn2 - Little getaways are the best -have fun!

Tonight after work Im going shopping and out for dinner with my Mom. My Mom has been such a big support throughout all of this and I always feel so much better about everything after spending time with her. Tomorrow we have a graduation party for my cousin. Sunday we are going to go out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary 6/27 (Monday) will be six years together and we got engaged on that day 4 years ago and we got married on 6/28 3 years ago. So we have a lot to celebrate! lol

  • I was visiting my family across the country the last 1.5 weeks, so I'm glad to be home with DH, even thought I'm on call this weekend. He magically got today off, and at this moment planting rose bushes in our backyard :-). We were in the audience last night for "Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me" (the NPR show) who are broadcasting from Portland this week!

@MooFish2364 I hope the shower goes smoothly for you, if you go.

  • @TScalei Happy Anniversary!
  • @AliciaGoose I've heard that Harvest Moon is a good game, especially for those who like Animal Crossing. Are they similar?

@TScalei Happy Anniversary and have an awesome weekend with all the celebrations!

@amberruka That's awesome you got to see it! We saw Garrison Keillor perform when he came to Des Moines. It's so amazing to them live, and they sound even better than on the radio (which we didn't realize was even possible).
  • @dubcompanion I mean, to an extent. Both of them are grind games that essentially have no ending. Harvest moon I feel has a little bit more of a progression because you build relationships with the characters, eventually get married, and have kids, and all of this takes a long time. You also have more tasks that you have to do each day (planting / watering / harvesting / taking care of animals / gathering etc which really aren't optional) so it's slightly more task oriented as well. It can also feel repetitive because the actual progression of the story line takes a long time and you're doing these tasks each day. I love them both and they definitely both appeal to the same type of gamer. I think if you like animal crossing it's definitely worth trying harvest moon. If you ever do, give it a little bit because it's also rather slow in the beginning.

  • @AliciaGoose Thanks for the lowdown! It sounds kind of like a cross between Sims and Animal Crossing. And fiercely habit-forming once you get the hang of it.
  • @AliciaGoose DH is the one who got me into Animal Crossing (it's one of his faves) and he always tries to get me to play Harvest Moon. I haven't been able to get past that beginning part - it is so slow!

@MooFish2364 Don't blame you one bit for considering skipping.

@amberruka Nice to see you around. :)

    @TScalei Happy anniversary!

@lilylover27 Have fun outside and don't forget the sunscreen!

Have fun everyone that I missed, I keep scrolling up and down to see who I forgot to tag and it's just not sinking into today.

@dubcompanion That's exactly what it's like. And that's why I love it so much. It's a legitimate cross between the two games and it can suck you in and absorb alllll of your free time.

  • @AliciaGoose I skimmed Amazon to see what they have available for the 3DS. Didn't realize there are multiple versions of Harvest Moon! Which one do you recommend? (We have a Wii U if you play it on that console.)
  • AliciaGooseAliciaGoose member

@dubcompanion So weirdly enough, Harvest Moon as a brand while still made by the same company is no longer made by the same developers. They broke off and now what is traditionally considered the Harvest Moon game is no longer going by the name Harvest Moon, and the newer games called Harvest Moon are really not good anymore. I have WiiU but haven't played the new Harvest Moons for it, partially for that reason. Reason for that long explanation is that I personally think the best 'Harvest Moon' is actually a game called Story of Seasons! It's the game that was meant to be the new harvest moon and is by the same developers, just not the same company. Second would be Harvest Moon a new beginning!

ETA: those two I suggested are both for 3DS!

  • @AliciaGoose Good to know, thanks!! Alrighty, I'll give it a shot. If I become addicted to HM (or Story of Seasons), and suddenly an entire summer slips through my fingers and I get nothing done during the off-season... I know where you post!!

    PS: I'm a teacher too!
  • @dubcompanion Even if you do, you won't regret it  ;)

Also of course now I have to ask; what do you teach?!

  • I teach middle school special ed. I saw in your intro that you were a HS math teacher. I'm earning a SPED endorsement as we speak that'll certify me to teach 9-12 as well!
  • @dubcompanion That's awesome!! SPED teachers are so versatile in terms of what they can do. Are you a support teacher or are you in a self contained class? I typically teach one section a year of supported Algebra 1 and I LOVE being able to work one on one with another teacher. Our district actually didn't have any self contained classes in the high school until this year when several middle schoolers moved up.

  • @AliciaGoose Aw shucks, thanks! I'm self-contained, since I teach multiple grade levels with mild to severe disabilities and am not available to collaboratively teach. I'm a bit of a loner because I don't always get time to speak to other teachers, but my room is rarely empty! One year, I worked with four students at once (5th grade reading, 6th grade social skills, 7th grade English, 8th grade math). It was a scheduling nightmare, but the kids were incredibly cooperative. I love my job and enjoy its challenges! It'd be neat to work as a support teacher and compare that to what I do now.

Do you teach particular grade levels or math subjects, or do you get to shake things up each school year?

Also - I'm going to try out Harvest Moon ANB first. Amazon says it'll arrive Tuesday, which is also when my CB pregnancy tests come in...!
Maybe I'll get so wrapped up in the game, I won't have the TWW crazies!
  • @dubcompanion That is amazing. Do you end up working with the same kids over multiple years? MY schedule can change from year to year, but sometimes it stays consistent. I've taught Algebra 2 / Trigonometry, PreCalculus, Algebra 1, and Honors Geometry, so I've had the experience of teaching everyone from freshman to seniors. My schedule last year and for this upcoming year is Algebra 1 and Honors Geometry. It'll probably stay the same for a while because honors classes don't usually get shuffled around. My Algebra 1 could change though. Because of the classes I currently teach I actually spend basically my whole day with freshman (and a sprinkling of sophomores in Algebra 1). They are amazing and adorable but also can be so challenging.

Also, that Amazon delivery basically sounds like the perfect combination of things. I hope ANB can take away the TWW crazies for you, though let's be honest, we know very few things can actually do that  :D

  • @amberruka I love Wait Wait Don't Tell Me!

@AliciaGoose & @dubcompanion I used to work as a paraeducator during college & grad school. I did it for 8 years and worked with students with severe autism. I spent most of my time in elementary but also worked at the middle school and preschool levels.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Oh haiiii friends! I know it's not Friday anymore but wanted to announce I'm still alive!

Im finally finished with my horrendous workweek and have a weekend off finally. I'm still dealing with ulcer pains, but all my bloodwork came back wonderful. I'm supposed to do 2 weeks minimum of medications and go from there. If I'm not feeling better I go to GI and will probably need a scope and H. Pylori testing. My doc left it up to me if we wanted to bench ourselves this cycle or not. We had mostly decided on benching, but had a whoops on Wednesday, so more like NTNP I guess. I got a positive OPK today and so that would make our timing -3, so there's a small chance. If in the slim chance I'm KU this cycle I will just keep up with the meds since they are essentially pregnancy safe and deal. DH and I have decided that after two losses, we can't control life and therefore whatever happens happens. I'm at peace with that. We have nothing major planned this weekend except some minor house projects.

@reneeannemm I hope you have a lovely BBQ with your friend tonight!

@roper2617 I love your comment about food. I love food as well...cooking and eating. I hope your camping is fun and you get lots of quality time with DH.

@dubcompanion Sorry you won't get much time with DH. Sounds like you have fun things planned, though.

@lilylover27 I hope you get lots of outside time this weekend! The weather is going to be lovely where I'm at, I hope it's the same for you!

@MooFish2364 I don't blame you for wanting to skip on the shower. Especially for a third child, to boot. I hope you have a great weekend regardless.

@brooklyngirl18 Sounds like you have fun things planned, hope you find time to HIO!

@rainbowturtles Moving and renos are stressful. I hope you find time to relax in all your business.

@AliciaGoose Welcome to these parts. I hope you get some nice quality time with DH.

@TScalei Happy anniversaries of all your things!

@amberruka Planting rosebushes sounds stressful. I inherited many at my house and actually want to pull them out this fall (not because they aren't pretty, but previous owner thought they'd be great out front where many small children run by).

@allysondunn2 A waterpark weekend sounds awesome! Enjoy!

Im sorry if I've missed anyone. I've missed you all this week.

Also, huge LOL's to the gamers here. I'm terrible at most video games but am quite good at Mario Kart on the WiiU. I'm in need of easier games that don't require mad skills.
  • @AliciaGoose Yep, most of the kids on my roster I have worked with since they were in 4th/5th grade. They'll be in 7th and 8th grade this year. That's great that you've been able to teach across all grades in high school. Builds the experience and makes your work versatile as well!

My goal is to teach high school eventually. 5th grade used to be the oldest I wanted to teach, but with each higher grade, I find the students to be even more fun and amazing. My classroom is next to preschool and kindergarten (we're a really small school district), and whenever I hear them screaming and throwing tantrums, I know I definitely prefer to deal with B.O. and hormones!! But teaching is great in that everyone has a grade-level and subject niche!

Haha, I can just see my thought process this time next week: "I'm going to finish this farming task, and then maybe POAS. No no, I just POAS 2 farming tasks ago!"

@MooFish2364 I worked as a paraeducator while getting my MA in SPED. It's fascinating to work 1:1 with students with severe autism. Each of them has his/her own method of communication that may look like nothing to the common eye (and at times it is), but it's amazing once you learn what their own 'language' is - and when possible, how to teach them to use it constructively and to hopefully eventually teach them more conventional means of communication. I've worked with students with autism so severe that they are nonverbal. The students with autism that I have now are high-functioning (basically Aspergers back when it was called such), and it's fun to teach them social and adaptive behavior skills.

@Wishilivedinflorida Great to see you back in these parts, friend!! I'm also happy to hear that your bloodwork came back great. And man, I will never knock Mario Kart! Great game series since the SNES!
  • @MooFish2364 I was a para for my last two years of undergrad in an integrated preschool program. It was an amazing experience! I wasn't 1:1 I was suppose for the whole class. The kids were amazing.

@dubcompanion So as I said above I was an instructional assistant in an integrated preschool program for a while in college. And in high school and college I worked at before and after school programs with preschoolers and elementary schoolers. People always assumed that because I did that I wanted to teach elementary. Nope! That was never in the cards for me. I enjoyed my time there but I agree BO is better than temper tantrums! How long will your program for the high school cert take to complete? My friend who's mom is a first grade teacher and I talk all the time about how if you compared our jobs (teaching high school) to her job you would never believe that we actually have the same profession because our days would look so different!

Also I'm so disappointed in myself, I forgot my 3DS at home and now my day of relaxing by the pool and then coming inside to play story of seasons can't happen! Ugh. But seriously I know the urge to POAS is going to be so strong this summer being home all the time. Good luck! Maybe you can melt hours away into ANB and forget about the sticks! (Ha!)

@Wishilivedinflorida Thank you! Also don't knock your skills, Mario kart is intense! I'm actually not as good at it on the new consoles. I peaked with Mario Kart 64.

  • Also, can someone please explain this "Animal Crossing" game to me? @dubcompanion or @reneeannemm? It sounds like something my uncoordinated self could even do just by the title. Is it like Frogger for farm animals? I remember seeing the title at the store for the Wii but I passed on it.
  • @AliciaGoose I'm K-8 currently, and the endorsement I am earning is actually K-12. (Still, woohoo, high school certified!) I had intended to get it down the road, but it is now state-mandated. As a result, a few colleges are offering a condensed program of one semester online coursework. So, I'll be done with the program in July.

But yeah, whenever I tell people I teach SPED, they're like, "You have so much patience!" And then even more shocked when I tell them I teach middle school. But lower elementary? THAT, to me, takes a crap load of patience - at least for me it does. Honestly, how many times can you tell Bobby (who has no disabilities and is just a normal kid) to take his hands out of his pants for the millionth time without finally snapping?? At least with middle school to high school, you only need to tell them to straighten up a few times before consequences kick in. They'll whine but they know what they did. That's that!

No kidding - teachers are such a diverse group of professionals. And even though elementary is also not your bag, it's cool that, because of your background experience, you can conceivably walk into a classroom of basically any age and be able to teach them. You mentioned before that SPED teachers are versatile, and I think all teachers are to an extent. That being said, I would fail HARD at doing your job day after day! I once got frustrated when trying to figure out a complicated Algebra problem, and my 8th grade student was like, "Mrs. D, do you need to go to your safe place?"
  • @Wishilivedinflorida Animal Crossing is like... Okay, here's the gist:

You live in a town where the villagers are animals. You make a living and build up your house by doing odd jobs for your neighbors: fishing, catching bugs, digging up fossils, etc. There are all sorts of activities to do to make money or to just collect things. It's a chill kind of game, and it does work in real time. Stores in town are open during business hours of your actual day, and it's night time when it's your night time. (That said, I have "cheated" at times and changed the settings on my 3DS so the store stays open a little longer!) It guides you through the gameplay at the beginning, and you get invested in your work and earning your keep.

And yep, you mainly just walk around so even uncoordinated selves can master it!

@reneeannemm @AliciaGoose Feel free to add on.
  • @dubcompanion Ha, ok! I pictured chickens trying to cross a road and getting splattered. Is it something I could neglect for weeks at a time or not really?

@Wishilivedinflorida There's a game called Crossy Road for the iPad, so that might be what you're thinking of!

Yeah, you can neglect it. I will go on a playing-binge for weeks at a time and then forget about it for months. The worst that'll happen is weeds will grow in your town, which is only a big deal if you're trying to plant pretty gardens and to have a good-looking town. Also, if you're away for long absences, neighbors may move away. Each of them has his/her own personality, so even though they're just video game characters, you tend to like some more over others. Oh also, there'll be bugs in your house that you have to squash. It's kinda fun though, if you're into that sort of thing.

  • @dubcompanion You pretty much nailed it! It sounds crazy when you explain it. My DH doesn't understand why I like games that are 'basically like reality'. Honestly I can't really explain why I do either. But they eat up allll of my time once I get into one.

Also with the SPED thing, it is so true how different they are. And you're right every teacher is versatile. For me I can literally teach any math subject and each class will look way different than the other. And I am also certified middle school and can technically teach as low as 5th grade. I honestly believe every teacher has a different job and that's what's so amazing about the career as a whole!
