Intense cramps, no bleeding

Hi there. I'm wondering if others have experienced this. Obviously I would love reassurance that everything is ok but I would also like to prepare myself if not.

Yesterday for about 15 minutes I experienced very intense cramping every few minutes that felt like contractions. No bleeding. It passed right after a bm (sorry for the info).

Im especially nervous because of a previous loss but I never experienced any cramping or bleeding.

Thanks in advance for your input. And yes I know I can ask my dr.

Re: Intense cramps, no bleeding

  • I think some cramping is normal, and it sounds like it stopped. Definitely call your doctor if your are worried, but try to keep super hydrated, and if you start getting them just sit or lay down for a few minutes and try to relax until they pass.

  • Some cramping is ok, as long as it isn't accompanied by bleeding. Maybe since it went away after a bm, it was constipation pains? I agree with drinking lots of water and calling your OB if it persists or you are feeling worried.
  • I agree that it's probably fine, but I'm of the camp to call your OB. They'll only bring you in if there's cause for concern, but it's their call to make.

With that said, a few times this pregnancy I've had cramps that seemed uterine, but after some time passed I realized they were really gastrointestinal. Is there any chance that could be the case with you, especially since a BM helped? It happened a ton for me in weeks 4 and 5.
  • Thank you. It definitely felt uterine but I agree it may gastrointestinal. I really hope so! I will drink more water for sure.
  • Agree with drinking more water.

I'd get some intense cramping with DS if I didn't drink enough water.  If you're still worried, give your doctor a call.

  • Last time I remember having pretty serious cramping. I took Tylenol. I feel like I blocked pregnancy out of my brain, but I think they eventually went away around 10-12 weeks...and then were later replaced by Braxton Hicks (Hix? See, I blocked it all out.).

This time I had some bad cramping yesterday, but I had to poop. Maybe I won't have cramping this time because my ute is already stretched out by my last huge baby.

  • I'm with @Xstatic3333 on the potential gastrointestinal pain.  I sometimes have really bad cramps and start panicking and then I pass gas and they're gone and I'm like "Oh. Right. That again."

  • I have cramps on and off, usually it's related to needing to use the bathroom. My OB has told me that cramps themselves are not a problem, unless accompanied by bleeding.

Yup, what they all said! This is my first and I was having a hard time discerning cramps from bowel pain in the early weeks, and every single time I did a twosie it got better.
(Other thing I've learned: pregnancy is gross and will only get grosser  )

  • Agree with pp, if not accompanied with bleeding, than it usually is normal. I would also cramp with DS when I didn't drink enough water.
