Babymoon in Cape Cod?

We're trying to plan a long weekend away to spend some time together before our son arrives and since the Caribbean and Central America are completely off limits (thanks Zika) we're thinking maybe Cape Cod. Anyone from there or vacationed there before that can give us some suggestions on what to do?

Thank you!

Re: Babymoon in Cape Cod?

  • Falmouth and Woods Hole are awesome. Not too far down the cape, so the drive is a bit easier, and the ferry to the Vineyard is right there for day trips.

  • No advice because I have never been there - but that sounds lovely!

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll check them out! Is there anything to do there other than shop and eat? My husband can only do that for so long.
  • I'd suggest Truro Vineyards, but it might not be that much fun for you!  haha.  There's also Pirate's Cove for mini golf which I always had fun at - there are 2 courses.  Provincetown is always worth a trip in my opinion too - you can walk around, eat, people watch and shop.  Also, depending on how your sea legs are, whale and seal watches are everywhere.  I'd just caution with patience because there is typically a lot of traffic unless you go during the off seasons (at this point, after Labor Day weekend) - especially out to Provincetown, since Rt 6 is really the only major road.
  • Never been but sounds amazing. Have a great time wherever you guys decide to go!

Well there's the beach, obviously, and there are a couple lovely places to visit. If you stay in Woods Hole you can walk and bike to a whole bunch of fun things. There's Nobska lighthouse, which is a nice place to go see. I always go climbing on the rocks across the street to watch the ocean there. You can also go walking up to the Knob which is a nice way to spend the morning or afternoon. It's a nice walk, and then you can picnic or go to the beach there. On the Vineyard there's plenty to do, too. It's a great day trip. You can go around Oak Bluffs and see all the adorable little gingerbread houses (Google them. They're real houses! They're adorable), and you can walk around and see the carousel and stuff. It's quite wonderful! There's also a cute little aquarium in Woods Hole which is always fun, and you can go to the little Woods Hole Museum to learn about all the cool oceanographic research that goes on in that town. They have the MBL (marine biological laboratories) and WHOI (woods hole oceanographic institute) and a bunch of cool sailing stuff around town.
Also of course a couple really cute little shops, restaurants and cafes. It's a great area. Well worth a visit!

  • @DunkinDecaf can I hire you as my vacation planner? That sounds like an awesome way to spend a vacation! I only spent a weekend on the Cape while living in MA.
  • @shevaCCHaha anytime... assuming you want to go to Woods Hole. That one part of the Cape I know pretty well, but otherwise I'm average at best.

  • Hubby and I are going on vacation to Boston and New York and making a day trip to Provincetown. We were originally going to spend more time exploring Cape Cod but we only have 6 days, so we decided to spend most of our time in the Cities. Anyway, the things we are contemplating during our one day visit... Pilgrim Monument and Museum, Beach time, Commercial Street shopping, and whale watching. I am most excited about the whale watching BUT it looks like the tours are all 3-4 hours which will be a large chunk of our time. So I'm undecided if we will do that excursion or skip and just enjoy the town for longer.

  • I'm at the cape right now for a work trip and it's awesome. The ferry from Woods Hole is super easy (just make sure you read the website about parking and schedules because it can get super busy in the summer). I also love Falmouth because there's so much to do there. If you're looking to just hang out at the beach, there are a bunch of different beach towns all down the cape. I'm partial to Chatham because I summered there growing up, plus it's an easy day trip to anywhere on the Cape.

@dunkindecaf No joke, I'm sitting in the village of gingerbread houses right now. It's adorable! It's also really peaceful and a great way to kill an hour between meetings when you're dressed for work meetings and not the beach.

  • @jrussell16Man, I don't know what kind of job would have meetings on the Vineyard but it sounds awesome. I hope you're having a fun trip!!

I'm in fundraising for a college so I go wherever the alumni are and in the summer they're in the Cape and the Vineyard (particularly the alumni with money...and they are the ones I really want to see). I often travel to far less fun places, but this trip makes up for it.

Sandwich is also really nice and affordable. There's little shops and restaurants too and a glass museum. Plus has a really nice boardwalk. Not a bad drive to the ferry if you're looking to do a day trip to Martha's vineyard. And it's about 20 minutes to Hyannis. Cape cod melody tent and the kennedy compound, plus main street is really cool. Cape cod potato chip factory is near there too for tours and a free bag of chips at the end :)
And Provincetown takes a long time to get to and is overrated. Lighthouses along the way is nice though.
  • You guys are the best! Thank you so much for all the tips!
  • Eat lots of ice cream while you're there! New England has THE BEST ice cream and I miss it!

@DunkinDecaf Any recommendations on where to stay in that area? I’m going for a baby moon and thinking a hotel with a pool!
