Mamas With Cerclage Experience

Hi ladies! Hope you're all doing well.

I I have my first cerclage for IC. I delivered DS at 36w after 6 weeks of bed rest and lots of progesterone.

Last night, I started having regular contractions, every 10 min. apart. I also started feeling *a lot* of pain, like my stitches are being tugged or stretched. I called the doctor, and we decided that I was right on the cusp of going in and that I'd continue to track the contractions and go in if they picked up (they fizzled out around midnight).  However, the tugging feeling is even worse this morning! I'm wondering if this is just a common thing with a cerclage as baby drops and we near the end (I'm 33+5). Any ideas?

This is my third cerclage.  I have had the least amount of BH this pregnancy than any of my other with cerclages.   However, the other week I felt like I was ripping through my cerclage for a couple hours.  It wasn't coupled with BH or bleeding so I decided not to freak out.  It went away, but if it didn't within 24 hours I was going in for a cervical check.  I think that is really going to be the only way you and your Dr know if anything is wrong with the cerclage.  I know women that have dilated and effaced despite having a cerclage.  I would get checked.

To make a long story short, I have never had lots of pressure with my cerclages that felt like what you described for longer than 24 hours, even at the very end.  I had one removed at 38 weeks and one at 36 weeks.  I hope everything is ok with your cerclage.  I had BH that were timetable all through my pregnancy with my DD.  they never did anything to my cervix but create scar tissue.

  • How often are you ladies having your cervix monitored?  I go in every two weeks for a sono to check my cervix.
  • I called my OBGYN back this morning and my doctor had me go in for an internal US and an NST. My stitch is holding, but my cervix went from 5 down to 2.1 in the last two weeks, and baby's very low. The stitch is going to stay in for now since I still have just enough length. I got a steroid shot and I go back tomorrow for the second. Then I'm going to have another US and NST on Wednesday (I had my 34 week appt scheduled already anyway). Looks like I'll be doing at least weekly checks now. My cerclage is scheduled to be removed at 36 weeks, but I think we (Dr., DH, and I) have a feeling it might be sooner. No bed rest, but I do need to take it easy.

I'm glad I went in, though! The tugging was so uncomfortable last night that it hurt just to roll over in bed. At least I know it's not just in my head.
  • I am so glad you went in too.  Fortunately, you are getting very close to the end.  I am glad everyone is being proactive and know more of what's going on.  Thinking of you.
