Has anyone else's dog lost its mind?

Ever since I got pregnant, my dog has started to exhibit bad/strange behavior and it only keeps getting worse. I got her when she was 5 years old, and so I don't know much about her other than that she's roughly 8 now and not too fond of kids. I've had her fixed so I can rule out her being in heat...
But it started out with her peeing beside her pee pads. Then she started going into the cabinets and wouldn't stop no matter how many times she was corrected.

Then today, after only being out of the house for 4 freaking hours, I come home to pee and poop and tupperware, and random food all over my kitchen floor. She had gotten into the cabinets and managed to tear into a box of cereal and a big package of ramen noodles and some goldfish crackers and spill it all over the cabinet and the floor. I don't know if it's the horomones or what, but I think I hit my breaking point with her today. I was so angry and upset that I couldn't even get a good breath and it felt like my chest was being squeezed in a vice grip.

I want things to work out with her, because I do love her but I don't know how much more I can take.

Anyone else feel the same?

  • I'm not having the same problems as you, but definitely having issues with one of our pups. Our Yorkie is absolutely loving me being pregnant and is nothing but loving. Our doxie mix however has begun showing some pretty serious behavioral issues.

Like you, we also got him when he was a little older (~5), he's 9 now and has never particularly like children. He showed some agression when we first got him, but has been really good the last 2 years or so. Now that I'm pregnant, the aggression is coming back. If my husband, or anyone for that matter except me, makes any sudden movement, sound, etc he goes ballistic. He has never bitten or bared his teeth, but he jumps up, barks very aggressively and gets his back hair all up. Nothing calms him down. I am somewhat concerned about how he'll handle an infant/child. We're going to our vet this upcoming week to discuss putting him back on the medications we had him on when we first got him.

Keeping you (and your pup) in my thoughts and hope you get things figured out!

  • Yes!! My dog is 12 (we have had him since he was about 1 1/2). He never has accidents, but lately he is having them quite a bit and acting "standoffish". I have no indication that he is ill in any way, so I can only assume that he is aware he is getting another sibling and is pissed about it. It is very frustrating for me as I am WAY to pregnant to be on hands and knees cleaning dog feces.

  • My puppies that is about 6 1/2 has become very needy, which I feel bad about, because I get the impression she also knows she's getting another sibling (we have two other dogs that are 1 1/2 year old brothers that we rescued at 5 weeks. She wasn't super pleased..) and is worried that she isn't going to get any more attention. It makes me sad to realize that I won't be able to give her as much affection when baby gets here, but it's unavoidable. She's DH and I's first baby in a lot of ways, and I don't want her to feel pushed away. She's been attention hungry to the point that she'll bark at us if we don't pet her when she wants. No bueno.
