Too early for names???

Me & DH like to look at names and try choosing good ones ahead of time, then lower the choices down over time. I'm just wondering if anyone here has started thinking about or even choosing baby names for either gender yet? Or are we just weirder than everyone else by starting already?

But we are nowhere near choosing one yet.

We talked about them before even trying. Since this will a second we are trying to make sure the names would go together.

We've talked about names for a while - DD1 is 2 already so we've had some time in between to talk names and plan for this baby. I never can get any good boys names although we have a girls name that we love.

We still have some girls names that were on the shortlist for DD. As for boys names, we have nothing.

We talked about the idea of having another baby for over 3 years now, so I've thought about names the whole time lol. We discussed names and got them narrowed down before actually trying (because I wanted to make sure baby would be born after holidays). So we have a girl name ready and we have 2 boy names because I'm in favor of one and husband likes a different one... I'm ok with both though so his will probably win

I love talking about names and researching names!  Hubby and I talked about a thousand girl names then found out we were having a boy at 10 weeks last time...... Boy names are hard.  I wanted something to balance strength, integrity, and intelligence.  It's kind of like branding!  Such a big deal!  Malcolm Gladwell has popularized a bit of the 'naming' research in terms of impact on treatment in school, being selected for a job, leadership roles etc.  

I love love girl names!   So much fun!  Hubby hated a lot of my girl names lol - Cora (downtown abbey fame), Zoe, Mical, Zara, Sasha, Leah, Lydia, Gwendolyn.   Our only rule is no names of exes.  We will probably go with whichever name he likes out of all the ones I propose.  Time to start checking nameberry again

I don't think it's too early at all! DH and I already have all our names picked out for future kids (of course assuming it all goes according to plan )

I am a baby name freak. I follow a ton of blogs and fb pages about names, I geek out whenever SSA releases the most popular baby names of the year. We have our boy name set and oddly enough its new to us, never been on a list for our other DC. The girl name is narrowed down to like a top 8. 

Short answer: its never too early.

I really want a girl but can't think of ANY girl names. I have a boy name totally picked out though. 

I keep going through every website I can find looking for a good name.

Our only rule is that it has to be kind of unique and not common. Considering I'm an Emily and DW is Ashley, we both grew up with everyone having the same name as us.

@emilypanthel Yup. I have a VERY common first name and I'm definitely not going to use anything in the top ten, probably not in the top 50 if I can help it. 
H and I have talked about names since the early days of dating, and we're still not really close to picking any for either sex. We'll probably start zeroing in once we know what we're having. There is one girl name in particular that I totally love, that H makes fun of every time I say it. Hoping I can desensitize him to it by the time we have to make a decision! One thing we might do is each make a list of ten names, and if there are any in common, we go with that. Middle names for either sex have already been decided, so the names just have to sound good together.

That was our big rule... Uncommon, but a real name. DH and I both have the #1 names of our birth year. I had 8 other Jessicas in my 2nd grade class. Yikes.

We've been talking about this for years! Most of our choices have family connections, since family names are big with H's family. We like classic names that will stand the test of time; if they happen to be popular that's less of a concern for us.

To go with big sisters Lucy Elizabeth and Violet Ruth.

We've had lengthy lists for quite some time, they'll probably stay lists until baby is born and one just "fits" better than the others.

LOVE those names! I love Beatrix and would have put Beatrice on the list for us, but that happens to be my mother in law's name and that's definitely a no-go.

Of course I won't be naming this baby but I have already thought of names for a baby if we have one after this one. This baby is almost named, they are narrowing down their choices.

I just wanted to add that we will NOT be telling friends or family our name choices when we do decide.  We made the mistake of doing that with DS and I had to hear about it for the rest of the pregnancy.

We still went with the name we decided on and I gave zero flips what anyone thought.  It was just annoying to deal with.

Giiirl, I've had a list of baby names for the last 4 years lol. We've actually already pretty much settled on a girls name...but boy names are hard. We have a bunch of maybe's, but nothing that we're in love with yet. So hopefully we have a girl haha.

The name we like is Aurelia Rey. The first name is just a name we both like that works well with DH Hispanic last name, the middle name has a bit of a story. DH's family has a tradition of carrying on the name Ray as either a first or middle name to their first born son's. I thought it'd be cute if we took the tradition and tweaked it a little. Since we love Star Wars, we thought it'd be fun to give the name to a girl and change the spelling to Rey (like from The Force Awakens).

As others have mentioned, DH and I have started thinking about names years ago, thinking that we'd be KU right away (silly me).  We have yet to agree on names, but are getting there!  It's more fun now that it's "real".

We have tossed out ideas for names but won't even start narrowing it down til we know the sex. 

My rules of naming a baby:

1) It must be a name that works for their entire life. It can't be too childish or too old lady. 
2) I don't like names with planned nicknames. If you are intent on calling them something else, why not just give the baby that name?
3) Nothing too trendy - I like "real" names. 

All of of those rules are for naming our children, of course, and I pass no judgment to those who don't follow my same logic.

My mom tried to convince me to use the name Florence, I told her if she liked it, she should have used it. She had 3 girls herself!! That was 3 opportunities for her to use it.

So far DH has just been asking what names I like but hasn't said any he likes.   

For a boy I really like Sebastian Clark (middle is my dad's name) and for a girl Felicity Marie (Middle is my middle name).  I also adore the name Theodore because we could call him Teddy -  I mean how cute is that?  haha
WE are also keeping the name a  secret. We did that the first time too.

Our 3 year old son is Augustus David so we need something equally strong and great for this next babe.

It's never too early for name!

Although, we didn't think we'd be having any more babies, so we'll have to start coming up with some.

DH was naming our son before we were engaged. I told him if we were planning a family maybe we should get married first! lol

So we have a boys name but haven't agreed on a girl's. What's hard for us is that I am Irish descent and he is from Italy, with family still there. So we want something that could be pronounced well in both English and Italian. But traditional Irish names are almost impossible for Italians to pronounce. So... Still working on it. I'm thinking we could do Irish first name, Italian middle name or vice versa. There's an old saying that goes "a person with many names is much loved," so having two names is regular rotation seems fine to me.

Chloe Austin Matins is DH's top pick. He likes how it sounds like Aston martin, the car. I like Clara and Liam, his choice force boy is Remit.

I just gave birth to a baby girl 9 months ago, so the name list I had for her still has some favorites on it. This is our last, so hubby is being very opionated (especially with the boy names). I have a feeling it'll take awhile until its final!

With this being baby #2,we already have a boy and girl name. We tell everyone if it's a boy or girl but we keep the name a secret until birth.

I've had a girls name picked out since my first daughters name was restricted due to family tradition.  Even my daughter already calls her dolls Lucy which is the name if it's a girl.  We can't agree on a boys name. If it's a boy my DH wants to use his name (John) which I love because it's the same name as my brother, but he doesn't want anyone to think we named the baby after my brothers. 
We'll see though, I think it's a girl anyway

My husband and I both had boys names that we felt very strongly about.  I also have a girl's name I really like, but my husband doesn't.  One night we got drunk and compromised.  He gets his boys name, I get my girl name.  So our names were picked years before the baby even came. 

Now I'm gonna laugh when we don't go with either name.

Definitely not too early for names! I came up with middle names for both genders almost immediately. My DH and I had talked about a boy's middle name before, so I feel like it's been set for a while, and he seems to be agreeable to the girl's name I came up with too....so that was easy! First names are going to be a bit trickier. We have a million options for a boy name, and we seem to have similar tastes, but struggling to come up with girl names and agreeing on one. Thankfully there's plenty of time left to decide

We were talking about names alot and not agreeing on any...and one day my little sister that is only 6 said I have names already for your baby. I rolled my eyes but said okay Ava. What names. If it's a girl it will be Braylin Grace and if it's a boy it's going to be Ryland Jace. I immediately fell in love with both names. He agrees. So eventually I hope to be able to use both of those one will be this baby's name

DH and I have both a boy and a girl first name picked out but I don't think we're 100% on the middle names. We've thrown out some ideas but haven't settled on one. We've had the names picked out for quite a while since we waited about a year to start TTC to pay off debt and get more financially stable.

oh yes... i'm one of the crazies that have been thinking of baby names since i was 5; and discussing it with my DH since the moment we decided we wanted to have kids.  And I think we had a name picked out by week 4.5.  Not completely set on them, since we don't know if boy or girl.  But for now, we have Kailana (Lana) Jane and Luke (unknown middle).

Lol we also made that mistake. With our first it was easy cause husband wanted the name Taylor no matter what. So if we had a boy Taylor Lee  (husbands middle name) and girl Taylor marie (my middle name) it was a boy. No one cared about that but my grandparents heard the name and somehow forgot the Taylor part and just called him Lee for months! Then we were debating on our daughters name. We liked the name "kayli" however I wanted to spell it Kaley and husband wanted kayli. I hated his way so much that we considered naming her Brooke instead. Once my mil heard it, all she did was say how much more she liked brooke... as if her opinion even mattered, cause it doesn't. But as we were walking out hospital I wrote down kayli... he won lol this time I don't want to share until we at least know what we are having just because I don't want anyone to get pregnant and take our unused name. It's actually happened before. And this time we have 2 boy names we are going between and I really don't want to hear the family opinions because I don't want anyone to think they helped pick the name. I'm kinda being grumpy and spiteful for some reason
