Source for Professional Maternity Clothes?

I work front desk at a nonprofit. Our dress code is somewhat casual (allowed to wear jeans), but I have always been uncomfortable with being too casual at work, especially because I also attend board meetings to take minutes. So if only on the days when I am working with board members, I want to look professional. As my bump grows, it's getting harder for me to dress professionally and I'm feeling uncomfortable with myself because of it. The stores I've looked in tend to have a lot more jeans, shorts, sundresses, and other more casual wear (Motherhood Maternity, Target).

Does anyone know a good source for professional maternity clothes? At minimum, I'd like to get a pencil skirt.

Have you checked Loft ? I think also Macy`s have different brands that sell some smart casual pants/blouses.

  • I had best luck at a pea in the pod when I was working.  Our Macy's maternity section would have some of their stuff, since we didn't have a store super close.  Gap might have a few things too, but I find them hit or miss.
  • Pea in the Pod has been a good source for me and sometimes Nordstrom (only online though). At the very least, both of these places have dresses that could go casual or more formal so you don't have to buy a ton of clothes.
  • I just bought a nice pair of dress pants and a black pencil skirt from motherhood maternity. I didn't see them online but they had it in store.
  • I actually found quite a bit at motherhood! Really nice dress pants and black skirts!
  • I bought my work clothes from Zulily. They take a long time to ship but they're cheap and hold up well.
  • I've gotten most of my stuff at Destination Maternity (it's Motherhood + Pea in Pod)
Also had some luck with ASOS & Loft.

  • Pea in the Pod is having a sale right now! Never happens!
  • Thanks, ladies! Now I just need to find some energy to go shopping.

Praise you for mentioning this!  I wasn't even going to look because Pea in the Pod is way too expensive for my taste but everything is super affordable right now!

  • Look at Loft or Pea in the Pod.  For budget friendly, look at ThredUp-  it's online consignment. I've bought a ton from there!
  • I bought two pairs of slacks from Motherhood. They were by far the most expensive maternity items I purchased. I've also had really good luck at local thrift stores,  so if you're budget conscious,  I would suggest trying there.

Lastly, I purchased the Bella band from Target and really like it. (not everyone seems to,  so keep in mind that it may not be what works for you) I can continue to wear my normal work clothes and wear the band over my unbuttoned slacks. It looks like I've got a longer tank on under my shirt,  but keeps my pants up. It was less than the cost of one new pair of slacks, so it's way cheaper than having to get a whole new wardrobe for the next several months!

  • I'm generally not a big fan of Motherhood's stuff but I actually really like the slacks I bought of that brand from Macy's. I haven't tried them but a lot of people rave about PinkBlush and while most of their stuff is dresses, I think you could work them into work attire, especially if your office is casual anyway. They're on zulily a lot.

  • I go for the dress + sweater/blazer combo. I feel like I can usually find some cute dresses, and then just wear my normal size cardigans or sweaters.

  • At Thyme I got matching dress pants and open-style blazer (I work night manager in a hotel). I saw all the pieces were on sale last week for like $30.
  • @lajoliedreamer have u considered a swapping service like  Le Tote maternity? I don't like buying maternity clothes - a monthly $69 subscription lets you pick and swap clothes as many times as you want, plus if you really like a piece you can keep it for a reduced price (usually half off the designer price tag). What I love is that all the clothes come shipped pre-cleaned so saves me on taking my nicer clothes to the dry cleaners.
  • @Knottie1458416769 I hadn't heard of that! I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the tip!
