My LO's bedtime is 6:00. I bath him every other night, when it's bath night we start bedtime routine at 5:15 (he loves playing in the water) if it's a non bath night we start at 5:30. Personally after routine and bottle I rock him for ten minutes and sometimes he's awake and sometimes he asleep but regardless that's when I put him in his crib. He loves his sleep and will sleep until 6:00am. He occasionally wakes up at 3 or 4 and "talks" for half an hour but we just let him be as he doesn't seem upset.
Personally i I love this schedule because after he's to bed I get an hour of "me" time before my husband gets home but he's able to spend an hour with him in the mornings before he goes to work.
Usually 7-7:30, and he is usually waking up twice (coming out of the sleep regression right now). We start the bedtime routine with a bath at 6:00ish. I usually do drowsy but awake but he's been hardcore fighting me on sleep for the last couple of days....
Bedtime is around 7:30ish. We start our simple routine 20 minutes before we plan for him to be sleeping (which is usually no more than 2 hours after he last woke up). We just do diaper/PJs, bottle, put him in the crib, then read a book. After that we turn on the rain machine, turn the lights out and we leave the room.
Is anyones LO attempting to get rid of the third nap or consolidate sleep yet?

We just got rid of the 4th nap. Is the 3rd nap to be disappearing soon?!
@nlwz123 mine has been brutally fighting sleep the last week. It's ridiculous actually. Shes also just coming out of the regression I think. Had a few nights of only one wake up but last night she was up a ton but was never hard to get back to sleep thankfully.
@012016 I'm still working on getting her to nap period. Some days she has 3 naps (2 of them 1-1.5 hr and another 30-45min, this is rare) but usually she has about 4 30-45min naps. i cant imagine her having only two naps right now
we start routine around 515/530 (depending if its bath night). Bath, pajamas/lotion, bottle, book, bed. Shes usually sleep by 630. I will rock her for a few min until her eyes are closed but not asleep and then Ill put her in her crib. She wakes instantly but I'll pop her soother in and put my hand on her chest and rock her. If she stays awake Ill let her roll in her crib for a bit (her new thing) and then she'll get worked up in which I roll her back over put the soother in and try rocking her with my hand again. Ill repeat this until she finally gives into sleep. Its not ideal having to rock with my hand but I'm trying to get her away from rocking in my arms so baby steps haha
We have days with 2 1.5-2.5 hour naps and no third nap. Some days we have 2 ~2 hour naps and a third 45 min nap. He seems to alternate every other day with how many naps he takes.
We start bedtime around 6:30 and he's usually asleep between 7-7:30. He's coming out of his sleep regression, so nights are all over the place. One night he'll wake up 3 times, the next he'll sleep for 7 hours straight. We're trying to get away from nursing to sleep, but that's been tough.

How the heck do you get 2 hour naps?!
for anyone with a baby that fights naps, what do you do when they don't go diwn for their last nap? Put them to bed earlier?
I have a unicorn sleeper. Although, we never rocked to sleep because I dislocated my tailbone during delivery and it hurt too much to sit in the rocker. We never fed right before bed and instead fed then DH read a book before bed. Whenever he woke/wakes up after 30-45 minutes during a nap I would put the binky back in and he'd fall back asleep. He needed help transitioning sleep cycles during the regression and that's how I figured out the binky trick. I fully know I have a good sleeper right now and that whenever the next baby comes I'm going to have a terrible sleeper haha

My guy is a great night time sleeper but naps are ALWAYS a fight. We either do three naps the first an 1 - 1.5 hours and two 45 minute naps or 4 45 minute naps (if we are lucky!) on a bad nap day, like today, I put him to bed 30 minutes early. It usually doesn't make him wake up any earlier and if it does I just let him play in his crib till 6:00 (wake up time) to keep his clock on track.
Bedtime is between 6-7pm depending on his last nap, routine is simply PJs and moisturizer (he has eczema), bottle, cuddle up with a book, then lie down in his crib while I sing him a song or 3. We always put him down awake, and lately he's been going down pretty well most of the time. We wake him again 9-10 for a feed when we go to bed, and he's started sleeping through for about 8 hours after that.
Napping I'm still letting LO dictate regarding times. If he's tired or has been up 1.5-2 hours I'll try get him to sleep. Sometimes this is in the crib, sometimes in his car seat or stroller (we're out at least once a day) but right now a lot of his naps are in his carrier or wrap. I'm ok with this, he sleeps for longer in there and I can get stuff done and have cuddles more often. I'd say he usually has at least 3 naps a day, varying from 30 mins to 2 hours.
@cali1710 If he misses his last nap he goes to bed earlier, though he then tends to wake after a couple hours for a feed.
Bedtime is between 7-8 depending on how well she napped that day. Our bedtime routine consists of DH putting her in her pajamas and new diaper, feed, and a couple of songs until she's asleep.
@cali1710 I just put LO down 30 minutes early, at 6:30, because she missed her last nap today.
Thanks! She usually goes down between 6-630 but today I had to put her down at 530 because she had been up for 2 hours and was so tired. She fought naps all day. Some days shes a great napper. But most days shes pretty terrible
Griffin goes to bed anywhere from 7:30-8:00. He is rarely every awake past 8:15. If he is, we generally have quite a few waking periods throughout the night. It also, doesn't make him sleep any longer into the morning either. He wakes for the day anywhere between 6:15-8:00. We usually get him to sleep longer on the weekends, because DH and I will bring him into our bed around 6:30 when he wakes and we can get him to snuggle and sleep another 45 minutes to an hour, usually.
He takes 3 naps, sometimes 4. The 4th one is typically a cat nap of 20-30 minutes. It's just long enough to keep him on his bedtime schedule, but not going 3-4 hours since the last time he had napped. His has 2, 45 min.-1 hour long naps and 1 nap that is 1.5-2.5 hours.
Bedtime is around 7 or 730 latest. She's usually very ready for bed around that time. We have a loose routine, nothing long or drawn out. We bathe every other night and start around 615ish. Bath, massage, jammies. Then we will play for a little and get a bottle ready (still nursing but like to give bottle before bed so I can make sure she gets a good amount), go to her room, turn on the red light, give bottle then burp and rock while sing a short lullaby. She's usually super drowsy by this time and i'll put her down regardless of awake or asleep. We put her down drowsy but awake for all of her naps/sleep. She rarely fights it and will usually roll right over and go to sleep. We're at the tail end of the sleep regression and has been doing a lot better lately. She'll wake up once to eat during the night. She may wake up and fuss another time or two but I usually just let her work it out for a few mins and she falls back asleep, or if she gets upset i'll put her paci in.
ETA: she just condensed down to 3 naps, sometimes a 4th catnap if she needs depending on what her day has been like.
I started to feel really bad as I read this thread! Hello mom guilt. Bedtime at my house isn't til around 9-9:30! We don't have a schedule for naps either... We actually really don't have a schedule for anything... He sleeps when he's tired and eats when he's hungry... It works for us but wow, bedtime at 5:30? am I really supposed to be putting baby to bed that early?
@daniellelynette they're supposed to get 10-12 hours of sleep a night (says the mom who's lucky if hers gets 8) plus a few naps at this age. If yours if getting enough sleep and isn't tired all day then you're probably fine. DS starts getting really sleepy around 6:30 and usually wakes up for the day between 5-6, so we do early bedtime. We have no nap schedule though. We mostly just hope he takes them.
@daniellelynette mine was only in bed at 530 because she missed her last nap and keeping her until 630 would have made her way overtired. Put baby to bed at whatever time works for you!
I'm 100% selfish when it comes to bed time. I don't get LO picked up and home from daycare until 5:30ish. I keep her up until about 7:30/8 even though she's up in the morning between 5 and 6am since that's the only time I get with her all day. If I stuck to the 10 to 12 hours of sleep at night for her I would literally not see my baby on week days except for 20 mins in the morning before work while she eats and I pump.
I wish DD had a bed time of about 8. That way I could spend time with her after work and then DH after that. Last night it was 11:30...night before 1:30. We do her bedtime routine at 7:00. She goes to sleep for about 40 minutes, then is up again until bed. Then she's up every 2-3 hours to eat...DH is at home, so she gets 12 hours... I figure once school is over, I'll try sleep training...I love her but I'm tired.
@nackie i was wondering where you saw the 10-12 hour number. The Ferber book I'm reading says 12 1/2 total for a full day/night for this ages with 9 to 10 of those hours being nighttime hours and the rest naps --- which seemed low to me (since that would mean 8pm bedttime is a 5:30am wake time).

Don't feel bad. We don't pick up our LO until 5:45 from daycare, so if we put her to bed earlier than 8, she would only see the daycare workers. Not OK with this mama! We start bedtime routine at 7 or 7:30, but I try to get her to finish final bottle right around 8ish. When she does, she usually drops off to sleep in about 5 or 10 minutes, and I don't hear from her again until 5-5:30. (Other than a paci rescue or something like that.) She's been sleeping through the night since about 6 weeks (God bless her, I went back to work the next week,) and still naps pretty well during the day-about an hour in the morning, and about three hours in the afternoon. (Yep. She's always been a great sleeper.) I was obsessing about what was "right" and what wasn't about everything, and LO's pediatrician kind of scolded me. He said that those were successful techniques for some people, but that I needed to follow my instincts, and not so much about what the books say. Since I started just working it out without any books (or Dr. Google,) I feel like we have a much better system.
I don't get home from work and daycare pick up until at least six depending on traffic. We do a bottle as soon as we get home and play for 45 minutes to an hour. Then she take a quick 45 minute nap normally, then we get up and play some more. If it is bath night, we start that around 8:30 and we put her to bed at 9. I won't put her to bed earlier because we wouldn't see her since we both work! It works for us. She STTN most nights. If she does wake up, a paci works normally and she passes back out until 6:30. You have to do what works for your family.
Mine goes to bed about 8:30pm and sleeps until 3:30am. He goes back to sleep and I have to wake him at 7:00am to get ready for daycare. He takes a few naps during the day, one in the morning is the longest of them.
For those with early bedtimes, have you had a day here or there where you wanted to do something, but it was past lo's bedtime? With it being summer, we have a few commitments on the weekend, and I am agonizing over messing up lo's routine. Or I don't know if I am being too neurotic about the whole thing. Any experiences with this?
@BGoperadiva I am the same way!!! We start bedtime routine at 530/545 and he's asleep by 6/630! I feel like we can't do anything or go anywhere for the fear of being our past his bedtime. It seriously gives me anxiety haha
@kaym6 I am assuming it's just because they are so young, and maybe this time next year it won't be such a big deal if you are a little later for bedtime once in awhile?
@BGoperadiva my guy had a 6 bedtime. We don't let that stop us from having a late night every other week. He will usually fall asleep in his stroller/ carrier or we lay him down in the pack n play if we're at the in laws or friends. We figure as long as his schedule isn't interrupted too much he'll be fine. We've never had an issue. Good luck!
@BGoperadiva we've had a bunch of things we've had to cancel/turn down/leave early because of his 6:30 bedtime. It's frustrating, but the misery of keeping him up past his bedtime just isn't worth it. It'll get better soon enough.
I'm wondering the same! We have a few commitments the next few weekends and they are all starting at 6 which is her bedtime. I don't want to mess anything up. I may get her to sleep and ask my parents to hang at our house while we pop over to a birthday party. But fathers day is a tough one. My husbands side does a big fathers day doo but I may just send hubby and stay home. Its driving me nuts, my FIL keeps asking us to come for dinner and weve said COUNTLESS times that dinner doesnt work because we have her in bed at 6.. His response is "well eat at 4". Well he lives an hour away. And its not like we can eat and dash theres always chatting. And if we go too early she'll miss her last nap and bedtime will be a nightmare. Ugh.
Does anyone have the issue of baby waking in the night and it taking 2-3 hours to get her back down? She wakes around midnight (give or take an hour) and we get her to sleep and she wakes right up. Takes forever for her to stay asleep. Try feeding her a couple ounces but shes gulp the first ounce then slowly drink the second in which I just stop because she's clearly not hungry. I just can't figure out how to get her to stay asleep. She's been doing this for a good month or so. We haven't started sleep training. We're waiting until 6 months.
@cali1710 Our LO woke up the other night and would not stop babbling, cooing, and playing. I tried feeding her and giving her a paci both of which she refused. I ended up just leaving her there and within 20 minutes she was back asleep. I'm sure you've tried just leaving her alone, but thought I'd throw that out there. I was going to give her 30 minutes before I tried something else, but then she just drifted off to sleep on her own.

We sort of did. She kinda whines but not really cries. Maybe I'll try again tonight. Thanks!!
@cali1710 How has your LO been sleeping at night? Is she getting any better?
No she hasn't gotten any better. She's been easy to get to bed at 6 but is still waking up in the night. Usually around the same time. I think shes ritual waking. I'm going to try something tonight and hope it works. They say if you go in an hour before she wakes and brush her cheek just so she doesnt wake but her sleep sequence resets. So I'll try it tonight but we've just decided to stop feeding in the night (she hasn't eaten during the night since 3 months when she STTN but when her regression started we fed again thinking that was why she was waking. We're only feeding her 2 oz now but I know shes just eating to suck on the bottle.). So I'm hoping if shes knows she wont get food anymore she'll stop waking up. How are things going with you??
I'm sorry things haven't improved yet . DD has been waking only once for about a week now and then going back down for another 2-3 hours. Naps are improving as well. It's funny that you mention brushing her cheek because today DD fell asleep on me and she started to fidget, so I started rubbing her temple. She immediately stopped and fell back asleep and slept for 2 HOURS! Now I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it?

It may! Glad your naps are improving! Her naps are a littleeeee better. Usually the first one of the day (by usually I mean the last 4 days) its been about 1.5 hours. But the rest are still 30 min. Night time she generally wakes 1-2 times but some nights are worse then others. If it didnt take 3 hours to get her back down I wouldn't mind.
