UTI and miscarriage??

I just came back from the ER and I have a UTI. I am 5w5d along and the Dr said that UTI's cause MC. Does anyone have any experience or feedback? I feel so stressed now.

Re: UTI and miscarriage??

  • I had a UTI with my last pregnancy, they caught it after my initial visit, so I wasn't very far along. DD is now 1, so definitely didn't cause a miscarriage! MW just had me take antibiotics for a week and I was good to go.

  • I had one with my last pregnancy but I was fairly far along, nothing happened.  I have one now and my doctor did not tell me that. He said they were fairly common during pregnancy.
  • I had 1 with both my previous pregnancies and both were born fine. With my first I didn't see a Dr. Until I was 4 1/2 months pregnant. They said I had a really bad UTI and said I must have had it the whole time. I was prescribed medicine and and it was taken care of. I never heard anything about a connection with m.c. I wish they wouldn't tell people bad things when you really have no control over that type of thing. I'm sorry you got worried, try to not be stressed. Wishing you peaceful thoughts :)

  • UTIs are super common, I had one during my first pregnancy and everything went fine with treatment. As long as you make sure you take all of your abx I wouldn't worry about it. I work in the ER and we always tell our female prego pts with UTI that miscarriage is a possibility, because we have to and to stress to them the importance of taking and finishing the abx.(this is in no way medical advise by me, I'm not your doctor :p  )
