Previous G.Diabetes-starting to hate carbs again

with my 1st pregnancy I had GD and was able to control it with the nutrition plan. I hated having GD and was devasted when I found out. I'm a very healthy person- eat organic, grass fed, no process foods, etc so it's purely genetic- my mom had it with two of her four pregnancies. I'm already mentally counting carbs bc I really don't want to get it again which I know I probably will. I'm NOT dieting just avoiding overloading on carbs which I definitely did the first tri last time. Anyone else in a similar boat and want to start a little support checkin?

  • I had GD last time too.

I started being serious about doing low carb (less than 45 carbs per meal, 15-30 carb snacks a couple times a day, etc) in Sept. I have been really good about it 98% of the time, so I am just going to keep it up. can't hurt, right?

  • Yea that's what I figured. Trying to keep my calories up at the same time bc I'm nursing too. Ughh the struggle is real
  • I make sure to eat a lot of calories. eggs with cheese, butter on toast, whole cream in coffee, mayo on sandwich, etc. so the baby has plenty of food, just not sugars.

I had impaired Glucose Tolerance with my daughter but I couldn't control my fasting sugar level at all, so had to be on Insulin. I have PCOS so I have a big chance of getting it again. I have been trying to limit my carbs in the evening (my current vice) and adding more protein to my daytime snacks. I hope not to have it again , but am prepared if I do.

Did you have GD last time? After I found out I did, bye bye went sandwiches and toast bc they would make my blood sugars rise too high and they basically took up all of my allotted carbs for the meal. If you didn't have it then it wouldn't be a problem but for me I look at a sandwich and think- nope not worth it and then make up a huge salad with chicken/avocado/any veggies. But deep down I want that effin sandwich so bad lol. It sucked
  • I did have GD last time (week 24 - birth) and really did the GD diet to a T.

    I do have bread (15 carbs a
slice kind) I have eggs with toast for breakfast or a sandwich for lunch fairly often. it is my only carb at that meal.

different types of carbs (fruit, bread, potato, etc) do have a different effect on blood sugar, person to person. so you do kind of have to figure out what works for you.
