Blooming Bath

Anyone have a blooming bath?  What are your thoughts on it?  I received one as a gift and am not sure whether to keep it or return it.  I'm worried about mildew/germs, how frequently it needs washed, and how it gets dried after each use.  We also received the regular bath tub that we registered for.

Re: Blooming Bath

  • A friend gave me one as a hand-me-down recently. I tried to say no thanks, because we already have the bath tub, too. But she insisted that it was really the greatest thing ever and that I should take it "just in case." So I kept it based on her strong recommendation. It sounds like it's great for use in the sink in the early weeks and months. Which could be great, because you could stand rather than having to kneel over the bath tub. And the sink is a little less scary to me than giving a bath in the tub. I believe it's made out of materials that don't get mildew. Does the packaging not mention the cleaning/care instructions? (I'm at work now so I can't look myself).

  • I thought it was so cute but my cousin got one for her baby and said definitely skip. She said you had to machine wash it regularly to avoid mildew and mold. Yuck. I'm sticking with the traditional baby tub!
  • I really wanted one, but we don't dare. My husband is anphylactic with mold, so anything which increases the risk of exposure is a no go.
Someone gave us a baby seat sling to use in the sink, so I think that is the route we'll go. The mesh comes off so it can be washed, the hard plastic is dishwasher safe, and it's mesh and plastic not poofy foam so it seems like the chance of mold to begin with would be less...

  • I absolutely loved mine.  I will definitely be using it again this time around.  After each bath I made sure to get all the excess water out and hung it up to dry.  It dried pretty quickly and I washed it regularly with my towels. I definitely didn't have mildew issues.  I also loved being able to use it in the tub once my dd was sitting.  It kept her from sliding around in the tub and was a cushion if she lost her balance.
  • I have one and tried it once and hated it.  We ended up using it as a mat for DD to lay on the counter when we were still bathing her in the kitchen sink.

  • I thought about getting it or the Puj tub but I'm just going to put down some towels in my bathroom sink for the first while. My mom said that's what she did with me and then I don't have to buy something special for the sink.

  • When DS was really little we used the PUJ tub, it's similiar to the Blooming Bath since it's meant to go in the sink. It worked really well in the beginning since he was tiny and it cradled him nicely in the sink. I loved that unfolded flat to dry and I would always give it a good wipe down after each use. Once he got a little bigger we switched him to a regular tub since he wanted to kick and play around.

  • I have never heard of it, but I bathed with DD after we left the nicu, I sat in the bath and held her on my legs and my husband lifted her out after. Worked well, but we were in nicu for a few weeks so everything was healed by then! Then when she was bigger we put her in the tub on her back with just a little bit of water to kick/play. We tried one of those little tubs but was a huge pita.
  • I never had one but while doing our registry the employee stated not to get it. To many issues with mold and it taking a long time to dry.

  • Thanks everyone.  You reaffirmed my decision to return it!  I'd rather use the $40 towards something else off our registry!
