Will Not sleep in her crib

So. My daughter, at 19 weeks still sleeps in her rock n play. Every time we try the crib she wakes right up before we have put her down. I've tried putting her down awake. Doesn't work. She slept in it great for about a week so i don't know what her deal is. Anyone have any ideas how to get her to sleep in the crib?

Could be the 4th leap or the sleep regression. My LO has slept in ger crib since 8 weeks. Starting at 16 weeks she started going through her regression and is very difficult getting to sleep in her crib. It takes multiple tries getting her to stay asleep in her crib. She falls asleep in our arms and wakes the second she gets put down. Thats just me though...

I think it just takes many tries and a lot of patience!  Here's what works for me: after a bath and pj's, I give her a paci and rock her in my arms until her eyes close.  Then, I put her in her crib. She usually wakes up immediately, but then I start to pat her.  I pat her and count to a hundred. If she stirs, then again I will pat her and count to a hundred. Does anyone else pat?

We do a modified sleep training.  We do bed time routine (book then song then prayer) in her room (I read it's good to do the routine in her room that way she enjoys being in it and doesn't see her room as the place she goes at the end of the night when the fun ends).  I kiss her goodnight and she starts to cry.  We let her cry for 5 minutes then I go in for 2 minutes then I leave and she cries for another 5 minutes and I go back in for 2 minutes and then I leave and she starts to cry but falls asleep within 1 or 2 minutes.

@NewMom42 I do something very similar! 

I do bedtime routine and then get him to a point of almost being asleep then put him in the crib and bounce the mattress or put my hand on his chest and rock him until he's calm/sleepy then I walk away and let him fuss a little if he needs too and if he gets upset or cries I go back over and do the while bounce thing again until he's calm and then walk away again until he eventually falls asleep. I will say I didn't notice a huge improvement until I stuck with this for about a month. At first it took about 45 minutes now it takes maybe 10 and sometimes he doesn't even need me to do anything once I lay him in the crib. Another thing is I never picked him up just soothed him in his crib once I laid him down unless he was crying then I basically would just start over. 

It really helped giving him a Chance to fall asleep, he always whines when he falls asleep even when I'm holding him so I had to stop being too quick to rush over. 

i will add however that his naps are a fight and I usually hold him because I like the snuggles. Haha

@ChrissyD1203 We've been doing something very similar for six days now and are having great results so far. He's been falling asleep in less than a half hour (total, maybe 5-10 minutes of which is crying), sleeping beautifully, and waking up well-rested with a huge grin on his face.

I also still use the heating pad trick with my LO. I turn on the heating pad and warm up the sheets while he's getting his last bottle. Then I move the heating pad and put him down (he's usually asleep or pretty close to asleep by the time he finishes his bottle) on the warm sheets. It kind of mimics the warmth of being held and the transition from my arms to the crib isn't as jarring or startling for baby. I know you said she wakes up right before you put her down, but maybe it's worth a try. Good luck, I know how hard it is to function at work on little sleep!

Last night she didn't go down until after 1 am. She's teething and has hit a lot of milestones lately. We're going to try the heating pad trick tonight. She can't sleep in the rock n play forever

I have mine still in the swing... He's also 19 weeks, but every crib trial has pretty much been a bust and my husband and I keep chickening out on sleep training bc we are scared to upset his routine. I'm going to do it this weekend (or maybe next) for sure! His feet are starting to hang off the edge of the swing. We are going to try the Ferber method of progressive waiting. I'm scared lol!

The crib was too open for LO when we first started him in it.  We had to put two receiving blankets underneath his fitted sheet to create a little gap, that he could lay between.  That helped a ton.  Also, because he has that silly startle reflex and wiggles like a worm in his sleep, it would wake him up every time.  He has a Merlin Sleep Suit that he sleeps in still too.  I think I have a back sleeper, (for now) because he's been rolling over like crazy, from back to belly and vice versa, but shows NO interest when he gets in the Merlin.  Not even during the night, does he move about and do anything with his body, other than move his arms either above his head or out to the sides.

I transitioned from RnP two months ago at 4m- with Merlin sleep suits. I had tried to just put them in there sleepy and it was a disaster. There was no issue whatsoever with the sleep suits. I zip them in, say good night and leave the room!

I'll discuss a sleep suit with DH. I read you can roll up blankets and put them under the crib sheets to mimic that snug feeling. I really think thatd why she likes the RnP so we're going to try that.

@teachmegs817 when do you plan on taking him out of the suit? I tried one night with DD, worst, night, ever!! She was up practically all night, then I gave in at 2 am and she slept like a rock until 7. I know she needs to get out of it eventually, but the thought of going through that again makes me wince!

I will take him out of it when he begins rolling over in it.  He has yet to even move around much in it.  I'm not sure if I just have a back sleeper or that he has no interest in rolling over in it.   So far, he hasn't budged.  I have a ZippadeeZip for when he does transition out of the Merlin.  I may not even use it though.

Well last night her daddy got a fresh warm blanket from the dryer and put it in her crib. Once the crib was warm I put her down. He covered her and talked softly to her and pat her belly. She was done. It was actually kind of funny. She slept like that for about 4 hours. I put her in the rock n play after i got her fed and changed at midnight. Maybe that wasn't the right thing to do. But i wasn't messing around at that hour when i have to be up at 4 am

I know a lot of other moms who used this method, when transitioning.  They would start in the crib and let their LO's go as long as they could, before transitioning to whatever else it was they were in before the crib.  I didn't really keep track of how they all ended up with it, but I do know that some are now fully in the crib.  Hopefully that method will work if you stick with it and she'll start going longer stretches in there for you.

We just started a serious transition effort from the swing to the crib. We are using the Merlin sleep suit for night sleeping and the woombie convertible (with the arms out) for daytime naps. The past 2 nights have gone really well (knock on wood, knock on wood) and naps went pretty well during the day today. We are currently on the third night and it's going well so far (knock on wood again). 

We are using the Ferber method of progressive waiting for when he does cry in the crib. Basically, if he cries when we put him in it, we wait 1 min, then go in and pat/shush/comfort him without picking him up and then leave the room. If he's still crying, you wait 3 min the next time and repeat the comforting, then 5 min, then 10 min. On the first night you stay at 10 min and keep doing that until they finally fall asleep. The past 2 nights we have not had to go in after the 3 min one and he has put himself to sleep. Fingers crossed it keeps working.

Update: I shouldn't have jinxed it - last night was awful. He basically didn't sleep all night and neither did my husband who was on duty Tonight's my night so I hope he does better!!

We had a rough night too! No one slept much. My husband tried. But sometimes Violet won't settle down for anyone but me. She was tired and fussy for him all day. And my stress level has been through the roof
