Wives tales, right or wrong?

I still have two full weeks until the mid pregnancy ultrasound to reveal gender and have read most of the wives tales out there for boy or girl.. Was wondering/curious to see how many people that now know their gender had them match up? Or were they completely opposite?  Thx!

  • Hey 50/50 odds are pretty good no matter what kind of ridiculous things you try. I've heard peeing on bleach is supposed to tell you what you're having...

  • I don't think any of them work, but it just so happened that the Chinese gender calendar just so happened to be correct in my case.
  • Half were right half were wrong for me first time around

  • Hahaha if you end up with the sex the old wives tale tells you, it was pure coincidence. It has a 50% chance of being right and 50% chance of being wrong, so don't hold your breath. Also "the mid pregnancy ultrasound" isn't to reveal the gender. It's an anatomy scan, you know, to check the growth and development of the baby, the important stuff that you should really care about. Finding out the sex, if they can, is a plus...and please don't pee on bleach.

I was just about to say the same thing. I go in for my anatomy scan in 2 weeks and I am not finding out the sex of my child, but I will get to make sure that everything is growing properly and hopefully take home a few awesome photos.

    DD: 8/20/14; DS: 11/13/16; DD: 5/3/19; DD: 8/31/21; Baby #5 (team green) due 3/24/24

  • We aren't finding out the sex either. We already have a boy and girl, so a surprise will be fun!

  • We know we are having a boy, and per most of the "old wives tales" I should be having a girl. Heartbeat was over 140 at every visit, I crave sweets, I look like crap, I had horrible morning sickness, and...those are the only ones I know/the only ones that didn't involve me doing anything stupid. Most of the time they're harmless (except that Drano one) and some folks think they're fun but they have no scientific basis.

  • Half of the ones we tried predicted correctly with our first, which was a girl. They are definitely fun to try but they are a shot in the dark! The Chinese gender chart and the hanging a ring on a string over my belly were correct...but I'm 95% I was purposely making the string move in a circle because I was hoping for a girl. Have fun!

  • I find it interesting that the Filipino version of one of the old wives tales is exactly opposite of the American version. According to FIL, if the mother's face looks prettier/as pretty as pre-pregnancy then she's having a girl and if her face looks uglier she's having a boy. According to MIL, if the older child's hair comes to a point in the back (kinda like a widows peak, but on their neck -- don't know what that's called) the next sibling will be a boy, and if the hair goes straight across the next child will be a girl.
  • We found out it's a boy with 99% or so accuracy via genetic testing. When I went back to some of these old wives tales, maybe 70% were agreeing with boy - not the calendar thing, but the ms and linea nigra and dreams etc ones. Ive heard the Chinese version apparently is the same as the Filipino version, saying a girl makes you prettier and a boy takes it away.
  • We're Team Green and were with my first pregnancy too. My anatomy scan is next week and I am hoping and praying for a good, healthy-looking baby.

My first child was a boy. The OWT's during that pregnancy were split exactly 50-50. DH and I thought we were having a girl and we had a 50% chance of being right. We were wrong. Them's the odds, I guess.

@shevaCC your in-laws are Filipino?!?!?!?!?!?! :open_mouth: !!!! DH is half Filipino half white and he's been telling me all this crap about how i'm carrying a girl because I don't look "ghaunt", and that a boy will make the mother look worse. LOL He's sure that his mom's methods of determining the sex are right because "she's never been wrong". I guess we'll see!

  • @juliehollz13, everyone was wrong with my SIL's pregnancy, so I don't think it's 100% foolproof, lol. But I enjoy guessing...DH had everyone in the family make a guess before we found out the results of genetic testing.
