Prevacid Question!

My LO was just prescribed Prevacid in addition to Zantac, and the instructions say to dissolve one tablet in 5 ml of water and give her 2.5 ml of the solution. Can't I just do HALF of a tablet in 2.5 ml of water? Or does it have to be one tablet and can I save the remaining 2.5 ml for tomorrow's dose? I dont really think it makes sense to discard the other half of the dose, especially since this cost me over $500 for the prescription. Anybody else have experience with this?

Re: Prevacid Question!

  • @Jparke2, we really are twinsies. LO just started on Prevacid Wednesday night.  You can absolutely split the dose and dissolve half, that's exactly what we were told to do. We actually dissolve it in a little breast milk and spoon feed it to LO. The tiny granules can be difficult to get out of a syringe because they dissolve poorly.

Hey twinsie! That's crazy! Yeah I just attempted  the syringe and the granules all stayed in there! Thanks for the tip, I'll try that  for the next dose
  • After you spoon feed it, follow it with a pacifier to try to prevent LO from spitting/dribbling the granules. Any granules we couldn't get him to take off the spoon (they clump and stick), we cheated and put on the paci before popping it in his mouth. Hope you see an improvement! Heard it can take anywhere from 10 days to 2 weeks to have an impact.
