My name is Helaina. I actually love my name, and even as a kid I always liked it. It's unique and I have received many compliments for it (thanks mom!). Nickname as a kid was Lainie, which my family still calls me.
I'm Erin Marie, named with the same initials as my maternal grandmother and an Irish first name in her honor too. It's neat being sort of named after someone.
I love have a short, simple name with no nicknames - I'm just Erin to everyone.
I'm Natasha. I never thought about liking it or not as a kid. I didn't like that I could never find my name at souvenir shops but my mom was always good about buying things when we did find it and she got me personalized things occasionally. Now that I'm an adult, I love that it's normal but rare enough to not be one among a lot. I've met about 2-3 other Natasha's in my life. I no longer care that you can't find my name and I never personalize shit. My name gets mispronounced occasionally but it's never bothered me to correct people.
@ficbot I think we are going with Joanna for a middle name! I love your name! I think it's so feminine but also very sturdy. It's a great name!
My name was Mary Catherine. I went by Mari-Cait most of my life, but never loved the Mary part- it just doesn't fit me. I had some issues in my past that I associate with Mary and I just have a dirty taste about the name being mine. When I opened my business I decided Mari-Cait was unprofessional, so I just went to Cait about 5 years ago. I was really bothered by all my accounts being listed under Mary since it was a name I just don't identify with so when I got married last summer I officially switched my first and middle name and am now Catherine Mary and go by Cait 99% of the time.
I love that Catherine has so many nicknames and I LOVE the name Cait/Cate/Kate. If my name wasn't Catherine, I would totally name our baby Cait.

After reading all of your posts i think its safe to say i probably have the weirdest name on the thread. My name is Elvire (pronounced like Elvira but with the E sound at the end instead of the ah in english and el-vier if pronouncing it the way my parents meant for it to be said).growing up it was the absolute worse name to me. I hated calling people on the phone because i had to repeat myself a hundred times and in school no teachers even to this day in college has EVER gotten it right so i ended up going by LV which has been better for everyone. As an adult i actually love it. People are so intrigued by its unique sound. It always leads to conversations about where my family is from and i get compliments all the time. It is annoying when calling a doctors office or recieving calls from someone butchering it but i feel like my unique personality couldnt have gotten a better name to fit.
My name is Sarah. I don't mind my name. It's classic, which I prefer over a younique name that no one can pronounce. Although growing up, there were always so many other girls named Sarah in my classes, we all had to go by first name, last initial. I remember being so happy if there were no other Sarahs in my class, and I could just go by Sarah, instead of Sarah K.

My name is Brandi and I've always liked that it is spelled with an i and not a y. I liked that there was never another Brandi/y in my class, but it wasn't too uncommon that no one had ever heard it. There were a few others in my school. In 2nd grade, I wanted to change my name to Angela, but that didn't last long. The only thing I've never "liked" about my name is that you can't shorten it to anything or it has no nicknames.
@GirPipley Thank you for the compliment! I am named after my grandmother's Hebrew name (same first letter) so that is where Joanna came from. We will name after someone too so even though I don't really picture myself as the mother of a little Charlie, I may wind up with one :-)
My name is Tessa. I was born and raised in Germany in a small town where nobody was called Tessa. I actually liked it that way. I left Germany and have sunce lived in English speaking countries. No more mispronounciations. Sometimes people ask if it's short for something. All in all I am really happy with my name.
I never really liked my name a whole lot. My n ame is Kirsten, and most people spell it wrong or say it wrong (it's Keer-sten, not Krist-en or Kurst-in). It's pronounced exactly how its spelled and the errors have annoyed me for my entire life. I got a new bank account recently. The first card the printed for me had my name as Kristen. She corrected the information, had me repeat the spelling three times and had me look at the screen to make sure it was correct...got the new card 7 days later and it was once again wrong, spelled as Kristen again. Our son is Anthony, much harder to mess up.
So naturally if we have a daughter eventually we're bestowing that curse of nobody being able to spell her name right on her with Zephyra.

My name is Ashley. My parents didn't know how common it was back in the 80s. But I'm glad they didn't go with with Amber (second choice). There really aren't many Ashleys younger than my age group, so a little more unique now. No different spelling, thank goodness. I do like my middle name a lot (Kathryn). Not many people have that spelling, usually one of the others. I will be passing this on to my daughter, if I ever have a girl. My mom also has Kathryn as her middle name, so I guess we are making a tradition out of it.
My name is Sarah. I have no problem with the name on its own. But being an 80s baby, it is SO common. I have always had another Sarah...on my street growing up there were three Sarah's, there was always at least one other Sarah in my classes at school, and even in my adult life, I have had jobs with multiple women my age names Sarah. So, it drove me crazy for that reason only.
We tried to pick unusual but not crazy unpronounceable names. DD is Eloise, I have yet to meet another. However, Ellie, what we call her often is becoming pretty common so I made a mistake there. Lol. But if she wants to be more original, she can always choose to go by her full name.
I have and always will love the name Olivia, and it makes me SO sad how popular it has become in the last five years or so...its at the top of like every list. I loved it long before it was popular, but even if we have another girl, I don't know if I could do that to my future daughter knowing how frustrating it was for me.
Also, a pp also mentioned someone not liking Sarah for lack of nicknames, which is also true. Not much you can do with Sarah.

I love the name Sarah. That might have been me who mentioned the nickname thing! My sister is a Sarah, and she always was mad she never had a nickname. I almost wanted to just name our first daughter Sarah but my sister wasn't big on the idea so I used it as a middle instead!
