Waking shortly after bedtime

Any one else have issues with their LO waking up shortly after bedtime? For the past couple of weeks, my little guy has been waking up 20-30 minutes after going to bed and needing some patting or more nursing. Last night it took 2 hours to get him back down. It doesn't seem to matter if we put him down dead asleep or drowsy - it still happens. Anyone else have experience with this or suggestions?

Re: Waking shortly after bedtime

  • That was happening to my little guy a while back, so I posted about it and several people chimed in. You can find that thread if you search for "Baby waking up shortly after bedtime." Ultimately, though, my son grew out of it around when I stopped nursing him to sleep and he got a lot better at soothing himself. But it lasted a while!

  • Yes, for the past several weeks. She has improved in the past week where she only wakes one time after I initially put her to sleep, then I go in and re-nurse and rock her, and put her down again and she goes out. So the process to nurse 2 times with the wake-up in between is between 45 minutes to an hour. This is an improvement from having to keep going in and nurse her in this cycle 3,4, at a few points 5 times that took almost 2 or 2.5 hours to finally get her to sleep in the evening (all that dang effort for her to only stay asleep for 2-4 hours the first stretch). It also doesn't matter if she's drowsy or more into sleep when I put her down the first time, there seems to be no correlation. I don't have any advice unfortunately :(

DS started doing that recently as well.  It now takes two hours, two rounds of nursing and a lot of bouncing to get him to sleep.  So frustrating.  We're going to start sleep training soon.  Hopefully that will help.
