May 2016 Moms

Griffin Bear

I had a RCS planned for May 23rd. All was going fine and I had my last OB on the 17th. The morning of the 18th I had some sharp pain upon rising from bed. It wasn't too unusual since I had similar pain on/off for a little while. He was riding pretty low and I had tons of lightening crotch, too.
Later that day I still had pains with getting up and walking around. I kind if brushed it off as being 38 weeks pregnant for the third time. Around 4 pm, I got up to make dinner. At that point, the pain was much different. It was still a sharp pain, but was clearly centered at my previous csection incision area. Great.
My DH was already home for the day, so I told him we better go in to have this evaluated. Last thing we needed was a ruptured uterus.
I called ahead, we got stuck in traffic, and finally got there about 6:30. They were waiting for us, and got me on monitors right away. Turns out I was having some contractions, but that wasn't the cause of my pain. After describing the pain, they checked my cervix (0.5 cm at the most) and paged the OB on duty. The OB came in fairly quickly, rechecked my cervix and with that pushed on my incision line. I nearly jumped out of the bed from pain. We all agreed that we should probably go ahead and go to surgery then. She wasn't 100% certain what was causing the pain, but didnt want to send me home and have something bad happen.
Of course, ALL of San Diego was there having an emergency that night. I was preppedfor surgery within 30 minutes, but didn't make it into the surgical suite until 11:30 pm!
At 11:59 pm, Griffin was born! He weighed 8 pounds, 5.7 ounces and 20 " long.
My previous incision was in fact tearing. I was very lucky. If I had waited longer, we could have had a very different story.
