Twins?

I just found out I'm pregnant about two weeks ago.. I should be about 5 weeks and 4 days.. I'm pretty shocked to see that I'm already getting a belly! With my first, I didn't start getting a little bump until at least 8 weeks and wasn't really noticeably pregnant until 12. I'm just wondering if anyone has had this happen and it turned out to be twins? I know alot of people say you show faster with your second, but I feel this is really early. Twins are in my family, and my stepmom has been telling me "there's just got to be two in there"... and of course i have to very impatiently wait for my first sonogram.

The only way you'll be able to know is with an ultrasound.

My last pregnancy was twins and I didn't start to show at all until about 10 weeks. And I wasn't even convinced it was a bump--my doctor had to comment on it for me to believe it. Every pregnancy is different. Some singletons show sooner with STMs. Some twins take ages to show.

My belly between 4-8 weeks was bigger than now at almost 14. I think it's the huge hormone surge especially in progesterone that gives a big bump in the beginning, but when placenta starts taking over it deflates.

Agree with PP. Also, while everyone is different, FWIW when my mom had twins she said it felt significantly different from her other 4 pregnancies and her symptoms were much more intense.  

DH keeps insisting that I'm having twins (for no reason other than to tease me, I'm pretty sure ) but I feel like I'd be way more uncomfortable than I am so I'm betting no.  Guess we'll find out in a few weeks!

People keep telling me the same thing... I'll be 9 weeks tomorrow and already have a significant belly where I'm already wearing a belly band and wearing L maternity clothes. My belly is already starting to harden at the top and sides of my belly. Everyone keeps commenting that I'm probably having twins. I just keep smiling and crying internally... not that I wouldn't be happy but the shock would be overwhelming.

I wouldn't base your throughts on twins on your belly size... But like previous posters said you won't know until she get a sono

Honestly, belly size means nothing, but if I did I'd be having quads. Two people have already asked me and I'm not even six weeks yet.

FWIW, constipation, gas, and water bloat REALLY look like a pregnant tummy. I have lifetime issues with constipation and so many times I've looked in the mirror or put on a certain outfit and that day it seriously looked like I was pregnant but then the next day it goes away. These are issues that are exacerbated in first trimester, so it might just be that.
