Getting Induced....

So it looks like im about to head in and be induced.
My midwife just wanted to make it to 39 weeks and decided that this high blood pressure thing isnt a good idea anymore and its safe to start an induction.

We are hoping to only need to do cervadil and hoping to avoid pitocin entirely.
Im pretty scared as induction and C-section were up there with my fears, but i also do trust my midwife.

I am not yet really sure how i truly feel, i have a little time before i need to head out to the hospital while DH finishes up work and heads home.
I think im just gonna cuddle with the dog for a little.....

Best of luck! My mom and my cousin's wife both had pitocin and both said it was not as bad as they were expecting.
  • good Luck! I was induced with my first at 39w 5d and they just broke my water and gave me pitocin thru an IV, worked like a charm and I advanced quickly!
  • Good luck!! Hoping for a quick and easy delivery for you!!

  • Good luck! I was induced with my first and it went totally fine. I was so scared of getting induced and ending up with csection. I had pitocin - didnt think it was as bad as people told me. I was still able to have the vaginal delivery i wanted. Stay focused and try to wait as long as you can before getting the epidural - chances of csection decreases if you can wait until 4cm. You are going to do great!!
  • Thank you all so much for the comments! Im still kind of panicing cause i really wanted to go all natural but its great hearing a lot of you say pitcon wasnt as bad as you expected.

Im am 80% efaced with the baby in 0/+1 station. But my cervix just is way far back. They are starting cervidil momentarily then pitocin in the morning. They expect ill have her in less than 24hrs.

Just wish we could get the ball rolling already as im anxious! Thought we would be starting cervidil at 5pm and its 7:30. But i know i just need to chill out and let what happens happen.

Once your contractions have started, if they start to be right on top of each other or too much, you might be able to have them turn the pitocin down a bit to see if labor will continue on its own.

  • I was induced with my 2nd child with a foley catheter balloon over night and then my OB came in the morning to break my water. I had pitocin and all went well. My sister was very negative about me getting induced since my OB offered it on my son's due date rather than waiting. Hers turned into a c/s. Mine was fine as my OB had predicted. So as long as your doctor and you are ok with everything, dont worry. I didnt think the pitocin was bad at all but I know experiences can vary.  Good luck!

  • For me they were basicallu weighing the pros and cons of induction versus leaving me and the baby with the high BP. They felt that hitting 39 weeks was good to move forward. I really trust my midwife group and know they would necer give unnecessary interventions and that does make feel comfortable with it. All,things considered they are still doing everything they can to make this work as natural as possible. I got the one and only bathtub room and also the one and only wireless monitor. So hoping all goes well.

Cervadil 1 was put in around 7:30pm and its currently 4:30am. And i believe im actually having small contractions! They still think i will end up with a second cervadil and pitocin but well see.

The craziest part is that somehow from the doctors office at 1pm to the hospital at 5om my cervix moved down and dilated 1cm. Before even doing anything and having it not moved for 2 weeks.

I missed it. Why is this the craziest part? You're 39+, this is normal progression now.
  • Good luck! I was induced last week and had a really really positive birth! With pitocin too! I u set stand yours fears though! You got this!!
  • I was induced with cervadil. It was magic for me. I was a week and a day late.. And my cervix was hard as rock. 6 hours later, I was at 9cm! My son was sunny side up.. So I ended in csection but I just wanted to say that I was amazed at the progression.
  • I'm especially excited to see your update, as I feel our pregnancies were totally almost the same with this preeclampsia bullcrap lol. I had my little boy on the 31st. Fx for you! ♡
