We certainly prefer a way that is common in one place but not sure how it will be said most commonly. The name is Emeline. Thanks in advance!

  • I would say it more like Emma-line. So I voted for the first one.
  • I think that this is the French spelling and it includes the accent mark over the e = Émeline.  I believe there are 2 m's for the English spelling. The French pronunciation is Em-uh-leen.

Thanks everyone for voting and helping us out! DH was scared people would go for Emma-Lynn most often. @susykat77We definitely prefer the French spelling and pronunciation but don't think we want to use the accent aigue since she'll be living in the US most likely. I worry that if we spell it Emmeline it will be more likely to be said Em-uh-line. Do you think so?
  • I think you're just going to have to correct people in the beginning. Eventually they'll learn. It's a beautiful name and spelling.

  • My DD name is Emeline.  We pronounce it, Em-Eh-Line.  I wanted to steer away from the Emma-Line.  There are some corrections here and there but once someone knows the pronunciation they say it the way you want.
