Maternity Photos

Has anyone started thinking about or scheduled Maternity Photos yet? My Photographer also just happens to be my BFF, so I can schedule with her pretty much anytime, and had photos done when I was 30 weeks with DS2. I plan to wait until closer to 36 weeks this time.

Re: Maternity Photos

  • I had mine taken last weekend - I'll post a few once I get them back!

  • I think I'm going to attempt to do my own self portraits with some help from DH. I am not sure at how many weeks I should take them though. I was thinking around 30-32. I'm already starting to swell and the weather here is perfect for it now. July, is usually so sticky and humid.

10/2017: Twins confirmed with TTTS at 22 weeks.
10/10/17 Twin B passed after in utero placenta surgery
    11/2/17 Twin A & B born
11/26/17: Twin A passed after 24 days fighting in the NICU
    Benched 6 months

  • I am thinking of next month or July and happens that my brother does photography so he is ready for me whenever and keeps asking when are we going
  • Sometime in the next month. We'll do DD's 2 year pics sometime soon so I'll just do a couple bump shots while we're at it. Nothing fancy.
  • Mine are scheduled for July when I am 35wks.  We didn't do them with DD, and I figured this would be a nice opportunity to get some family photos as well.  I'd love to hear what you all have worn for yours/ plan to wear!

  • We are doing a family shoot with a good friend this coming weekend at 29 weeks!  Similar to @texasmama2014, it's mostly about the family shots and will just get a couple bump shots in there.

  • I have mine scheduled in July. I'll be 35 weeks. I'll probably die of heat stroke, but I wanted bump to be full force

  • I'm doing mine at 33 weeks, I did them at 32 weeks last time - I would do 32 again but that's DD's bday weekend so we're busy.  I don't want to wait any longer than that, though, because after 33/34 weeks is when I started to not look cute anymore and started to look more like Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, def don't want that for pics! lol  We'll probably also try to throw some 2nd bday pics of DD in there - it'll only be 10 days after her bday, so it's good timing.

That's the perfect time to do them.  My photographer actually said she doesn't like to do them past 32 weeks because that's when most mamas start to get the bad swelling and the pics tend to not look at nice - putting it nicely lol.

I'm probably going to schedule mine for late June, early July.

  • We'll be doing them mid-June and I'll be about 33 weeks. Looking forward to it!
  • Mine will be at 33 weeks. We're using the same photographer that did our wedding pictures. I plan on having some done with our dog and my parents as well. My mom just finished chemo a couple of months ago so I thought it would be nice to have some pictures of all of us done.
  • I won a maternity and newborn session during a Mothers Day promotion. The photographer usually schedules maternity sessions between 32-36 weeks. The only date she had available was mid-July so I'll be 35 weeks. I'm sure I'll be puffy (especially in this desert heat) but I'll just have to find ways to creatively hide it lol

I don't think I would have done maternity photos had I not won the package. I think I'll take the opportunity to do some family shots and photos with DD.

We actually just did ours last night.  I am only 26w4d, however with twins I'm measuring about 31 weeks right now.  I thought it was just the right time, as my bump is nice and round, and I'm not at all swollen yet!  We were really lucky and had perfect weather.  It was 80 degrees all last weekend, while the weekend before it snowed and next weekend it's supposed to rain!  I wanted to have them done earlier, while I still felt really good and looked good! :)

  • I'm doing mine at the end of june, I'll be 34 or 35 weeks by then. I had planned on doing them the end of may, but my bump isn't that big yet. It's round and cute, but I want a big bump! And our weekend are already filling fast
  • On another note...has anyone thought about doing a belly cast?
  • @jamiesc58 I plan on buying a kit and doing one!
  • @BrunetteBabe722 I have wanted to do one with every pregnancy I have had but it never worked out. I am going to put that higher on my priority list this time because I believe this will be our last child.
  • tmk0325tmk0325 member
What do you end up doing with the belly casts?  I guess I've never considered it, as I wouldn't know what to do with it once I had it done!

Can anyone give me a price range of what the maternity photos cost. I'm not 100% sure I want to do it. I really want a newborn session and called my preferred photographer and she is all booked up and not taking new events.  She said she would refer me to another photographer, but I'm not really comfortable with myself as the center of attention so unless the price is right I might skip the maternity pics.  I've worked with this photographer before and I feel really confident with her
  • @tmk0325 some people paint them and they look amazing. Some people put the baby's name, dob, weight, etc. You should google images of belly casts!
  • @jamiesc58 I had thought about doing a bally cast, but I'm just not sure yet. I'm like a few of the PP's who aren't sure what to do with it. I may google some images and see if I can come up with a good idea for it. And where do I hang it? In baby's room??? I think they are cool, I'm just not sure if it is right for me or not yet.
  • @ShanRum3 a lot of the ones I see are hung in the baby's room. I guess I don't know what I would do with it later once the baby is older. Maybe just store it with the rest of the memory stuff to give to the kids when they grow up.
  • I'm at the blow dry bar - first time trying this out. Going for that wavy thick natural hair but we'll see. Make up - barely covering up; for some reason, I feel differently in terms of getting ready for maternity shoot vs. our engagement shoot! Maybe it's the mother in me already but I just want to be as natural as possible. I just can't curl my own damn hair!

Also it's close to 90 degrees. I have on a very light dress from UO (not maternity). I am bringing two other long maxi dresses but I don't want to change in and out of dresses in this heat! We're taking pics by Georgetown so either change in the car or find a nearby cafe. At this point, one dress, multiple poses, and call it a day.
  • We just did ours at picture people - I'll post images when I get home. I found a groupon for $26 which got us a whole bunch of pictures in one pose, including a 16x20. We have a lot of wall space in our house, so we'll use it, and we were able to give each of our parents an 8x10 (DH has two sets) and his sister and each of my "sisters" a 4x6. My brother could care less, he just "liked" it on facebook.

I needed a haircut anyways, so I had that done right before, and splurged and got my nails done. I did shove my wedding rings back on my finger (it involved running my hand under cold water to get it on and off, lol) but I am glad I did it ended up in the picture.

  • @alikay20 I hope you share them. I am dying to see how they come out
  • @tmk0325

    Aww, simply gorgeous!
  • @tmk0325  @Allisun85  you ladies look lovely!

  • Never heard of this before. Is this a common thing in the US? Lovely photos.
  • @midwestbaby I had it made from someone on Etsy! It's for sale along with the headpiece if you are interested!

  • @tmk0325 I love the red! I'm looking for something similar, maybe in a soft pink. But everywhere I have looked they want like 150 bucks. And I'm too cheap to pay for a dress I will likely only wear for a maternity shoot.

  • @midwestbaby people are selling them all the time on the maternity resale Facebook groups. I had mine made for $60 from a lady on etsy!

  • No one is memorializing me in this state ever. My photographer tried to convince me to get them done last time and scheduled me for 36 weeks, I never made it that far but I am a sweaty swollen pasty vomity mess with dark circles and also on the verge of being sick while pregnant so not taking any this time either. I see all these glowing pregnant women in mat photos and I am a little jell, I do not look like that.
  • We are doing some in July. It has been a hassle since my regular photographer is also due in August and has a limited schedule with no availability. So a friend who is an amateur photographer offered to do them (I was going to pay her). She is also due in August, and while she originally said it would be no problem, she bailed on me last week because she no longer feels up to it. So now I have scrambled around and am booked with someone I have never met/used, but hopefully it will all be worth it!

  • @NICU RN That sucks that they both bailed on you! Hopefully this new photographer is awesome and you have fun while getting some great shots!

So just got mine back.... I didn't realize HOW LARGE and WHITE I am!!!! (especially next to DH, he works outside and I don't.)
OMGeeeeee.... there is a picture of me and DH walking down a path and I look like humpty dumpty walking down the street!! (we both do, he kinda gained weight with me lol)... But I don't know what imaginary world I was living in. I want to hate them, but I spent way to much on them to hate them that much.
Also kinda dislike them cuz  I shouldn't have worn the outfit I was in, and my SIL was supposed to help me and bailed with no notice. So hair/make up/outfit kinda suck and I am still butt-hurt over her bailing.

  • I am debating when to get them done, it is to damn HOT!!!
