Co Q 10 and DHEA

Morning,

anyone have a positive experience with either of these? I was introduced to them from some of the girls on here and read both are good for increasing egg and sperm quality and health. So, I figured adding them to my daily routine can't hurt, but wanted to know what doses to take? and how long everyone took them for? also if there is a certain brand to go with?
Thanks!

Re: Co Q 10 and DHEA

  • I am currently taking a concentrated form of coQ10 - called mitoQ. DH is taking fertilsan supplement, so hoping for some good results we are in the tww, so I'll keep you posted if we have some success with it. We are both 2 months into taking our supplements so it might still be too early to see really any positive results. We shall see!

My doctor put me on 25mg 3x a day of DHEA and I started in April I think and I'm still taking it and in my 2ww. I think it may have helped some what bc I'm 31 and have DOR but was able to produce 8 eggs. Either way I don't think it's hurt any

Morning! I take Coq 300mg (from costco) twice daily (when I can remember!!). As a side note, I like taking both maca (I think it's best naturals brand...it's 500mg capsules) and royal jelly (Now brand) 1500mg each in the morning on an empty stomach, then my prental vitamin (again, from costco), 200mcg of selenium and a extra dose of vitamin c 500mg at dinner. I've been taking them for a year or so now. So far my egg quality has been great so the supplements must be doing something right!

I would just run it by your RE so they're aware of whatever you're taking.  I asked mine about CoQ10, and he said don't know that it helps, but shouldn't hurt.  One thing to look into with the DHEA is to make sure if it's from fish, it's from fish that aren't high in mercury.

ETA: Realized I was confused about DHEA vs DHA...ignore that part!

  • I take both. My RE said to make sure the DHEA is micronized. She said the combo has had some good results, but even if it doesn't help it won't hurt.

  • Ubiquinol is a recommended form of CoQ10 to take, as it is absorbed faster by your body. And I agree with the previous poster, make sure it is micronized DHEA. I recommend reading "It Starts with the Egg," as it has a lot of good information on improving your egg quality and it touches base on a lot of supplements like CoQ10 (Ubiquinol form), DHEA, Royal Jelly, and some others. My RE told me about CoQ10 and DHEA, but said it was up to make to decide to take them.

I think you may be thinking of DHA. DHA is from fish, while DHEA is actually a male hormone that has been shown to improve egg quality especially in women with DOR.

  • My RE had/has me take the following supplements per day:
75 mg DHEA (stopped when stims started)
    200 mg CoQ10 3 separate times (600 mg total)
    Prenatal
120 mg DHA (algal or fish oil/omega-3s)
    Prescription L-Methylfolate w/B6-B12
    1 Baby aspirin

I also take NAC and Vit D. I can't say for sure that the supplements helped, but I had twice as many embryos (6) make it to 5 day blasts in my 2nd ER cycle after being on supplements twice as long. There were still genetic problems with all but one each cycle (sounds bad, but statistically good for AMA), which makes their 5 day survival even more impressive. I don't know much about brands. I bought supplements on Amazon and picked those with high ratings. Good luck to you!
  • Is DHEA only for those going through IVF?

Im just getting through my "It starts with the Egg" but I feel like it's all for IVF.

My hubs and I are going to do one IUI in the next 2 weeks or so, while we wait for our IVF consult, and now Im wondering if taking the CoQ10 and DHEA could hurt anything?? Ive been taking the CoQ10 for a while but just started the DHEA

  • @ADRIANAC1982 The supplements improve egg quality, which is good whether you are doing IVF or not. There should be no harm, and starting them before RE consult is good. Read the warnings or side effects of the DHEA and make sure you discuss with your RE. FX for your IUI!
