Babymoons!

Hey ladies anyone planning a babymoon? If so when and where are you planning to go? Obviously stupid Zika throws a wrench in a lot of people's plans for the carribean but I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts!

Re: Babymoons!

  • My husband and I are traveling to Boston 4th of July weekend. I'll be 18 weeks at that point. Our 5 year anniversary is in October so we're also planning a small weekend trip but I'll be about 32 weeks then, so it'll be a close little getaway!

We are planning on a Babymoon! We haven't decided if we want to go to Denver or head to Wilmington or Myrtle Beach. Medieval Times is in MB, though, and we love it haha.
  • I think we are deciding between Tulsa, OK; Hot Springs, AR; Branson, MO; and Dallas, TX. So many options! We will be doing ours over labor day weekend. :)
  • We're moving shortly after the baby is born so house hunting trip somewhere.
  • We are taking a weekend trip up to Cascade mid July. I have a conference, and we can hit the weekend coming back. That gives both H and I a few afternoons/nights to hang out at the conference and then a nice weekend.

@dmontgo - I just read today there is a long term no swim advisory at Myrtle.  Looks like there's not an end in sight.  Thought you'd want to know since it's a possible destination choice for you: https://www.examiner.com/article/myrtle-beach-is-under-a-long-term-no-swim-advisory

Have you been to the mountains on the other side of the state yet?  I haven't but I'm DYING to go.

@DiFazette Aw man that is such a bummer! Oh well, we've been there a ton anyway.

We love love love Boone. That's where we got engaged. Asheville is also extremely amazing--Biltmore Estate is a must-see! Strangely I've only been during fall or winter (the leaves changing are awesome) but never in the summer. I bet it's still awesome though---do it!
  • We might go to Montreal... Or NH/VT.... Or Newport.  Can't decide.  We have a week off at the end of June.

  • We're definitely doing a babymoon.  Since we'll have three kids 4 and under once this one is born it's going to be a LONG time before anyone will agree to watch them all and for us to feel comfortable leaving!  We're thinking Newport, RI because it's within driving distance and I'm obsessed with old architecture. I'm dying to see all the mansions there.  We'll probably go in September.

@dmontgo we got engaged at Biltmore and it was gorgeous! I love that place.

We are going on a small weekend getaway the first of September. We are thinking about Charleston or Savannah.

@kbduke Charleston is a greeeeat choice! Gosh now I'm really reconsidering our choices!

  • We booked our "babymoon" before we tried getting pregnant. Not the most relaxing trip (sightseeing in France and Germany) but at least it was perfectly timed to be during 2nd semester, so we lucked out. Had to cancel a trip to Australia during Thanksgiving though, since I'll be like 38 weeks at that point! Oh well. Another time!
  • We already had a trip planned without the kids before we got pregnant, but seems even more important now since wth 3 kids under 4 I don't expect people to watch them for a while.

we will be going to Hawaii for 8 days. I have never been there and never been without my kids for more than 2 nights. So while I am looking forward to it I am also really nervous!

  • We are in Maui now, well, we leave tomorrow...but still there now. It was originally supposed to be the baby making trip but oops! I'm not sure though that traveling with an almost 2 year old counts as a baby moon.....but it's the best we are gonna get.

I don't understand traveling without kids...that really happens? I love that my kiddo got to come with us even though it's been tough...I wouldn't feel right not bringing her.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • We might go to Montreal... Or NH/VT.... Or Newport.  Can't decide.  We have a week off at the end of June.
    We were thinking Newport/Maine/Cape Cod!
I forgot to mention that we will go to Cape Cod in August.  It's a yearly trip with my family though so not exactly a babymoon.

@Lisa3379 If you happen to find me in your suitcase, do not be alarmed---I'm there for the schnitzel...and the castles...and... ;)

    Love Germany.
  • No official baby moon but we have a few vacations coming up- going to a beach condo for the week of Fourth of July and somewhere we haven't planned yet for my birthday in August. Both cases we will bring the girls but it's more about celebrating our family of four before we grow to 5 and things get exponentially harder!
  • We're going back to St Augustine sometime in the fall when the distillery lets us know the bourbon is done. We planned this back in February when we went with friends, and the same group plans on going back, plus a few more. Not really a true babymoon, but DH and I will have our own hotel room this time. I'm just sad I won't get any bourbon, so DH will just have to buy a bottle for me  ;)

No way @dmontgo! You got engaged in Boone?! I went to Appalachian State! I loved living in Boone those four years. We currently live about 40 minutes from Boone, just a short drive up 421 and we're there :)@DiFazette come to the mountains this fall. We'll take you to lunch and show you the leaves! Last fall we took little road trips almost every weekend just to sightsee and try new restaurants!

  • @mamawino - DH and I agree with that philosophy. For us it's a priority to remain well rounded, motivated people outside of being parents. They way I see it, you are your kids roll model and if everything in your life is about your kids, I see there being some danger in your kids being as absorbed with themselves as you are. I've gotten away twice on solo trips now (once for work, once for fun) and it's feel so so refreshing. Especially in these early years it can be so easy to feel like you've lost yourself.

but yea... uh baby moon. We'll def get away together for an over night but probably keep it localish. I also have a friends Moab trip in early fall so that'll be a little 2-3 night solo get-away for me.

I would love to, but don't see it happening. I do get a week for fall break in October, maybe I can convince DH to take a long weekend and we can do a quick night. He really wants to save his vacation to be able to have plenty of time off at birth. Our dog is also a pain to deal with either boarding or getting a dog sitter, so that keeps us home quite a bit.

I'm all for child free trips though once we get there. Hopefully we can manage to get away a little.
  • We are going for a quick trip to w DS next weekend, but that's about it. We've taken several pretty big trips the past few years so money is tight for travel.

@beff12 I am incredibly jelly that you live so close to Boone. I wish we could live there (we're in Fayetteville, boo)! We got engaged on Thanksgiving 2012. He took me up to a mountain lookout and popped the question. It was amazing but SO COLD. The most recent time we've been back is this past December for our anniversary. ^_^
  • We're hoping to knock out the big Scandinavia trip we've been dreaming of since we had to cut our honeymoon short six years ago. It's not a babymoon per se--H is going to be deployed this summer, so it's also sort of the celebratory vacation time when the returns. But since it will be in October, it will be the last big hurrah.

  • We probably won't be able to have a true baby moon because DD is so little. I might feel differently if I had anyone I could rely on to not just watch her, but to actually take care of her. My parents were abusive to me and my siblings so they are out. I did think we could trust MIL, but the last couple of times she has watched her she just flat out refuses to try to get DD to nap. We come back to a total meltdown and it takes days to get her back on track. I do like @zubenescamali 's idea of doing something to celebrate our family of 3. I think that's a really sweet idea. Now I'll just have to think of something between now and then that a baby who needs to nap often would actually enjoy lol

  • I'm not sure if we'll be able to squeeze anything in. DH just started his final semester of nurse practitioner school which should be completed the end of August so there's not going to be much room this summer for anything. My birthday is July 3rd so we might be able to squeeze in something then but I wouldn't call it a babymoon, probably more like leaving DS with my sister overnight and crashing out at home, Lol. Our anniversary is in October but that's only about seven weeks from when I'm due so that's kind of late. Who knows, maybe I'll come up with something!

  • We had already planned the trip before getting pregnant, but we're going to Denmark for two weeks this summer.  We'll go to Germany for a couple of days while we're there.  We aren't bringing the kids; they get to stay with grandparents and it's not the type of trip they'd enjoy anyway.
  • I could see getting away from the kids for a night or weekend...DH and I did that once for an overnight before a half marathon. I guess I just can't imagine going somewhere super awesome like maui without everyone. We don't get real vacations much (like 3-5 years in between to save up) so I would personally feel selfish leaving the kiddo out.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • Next Sunday we go to Dominican Republic for 10 days! I know, what about the zika virus? But this trip has been booked since January and there's a no refund policy. Even if there was I don't think we'd put it off. We're taking all precautionary measures. This trip is actually our honeymoon because we get married Saturday! So baby moon and honeymoon all in one!
  • I'd love to have a babymoon but I don't know if it's in the cards for us.  June is pretty much out as that is DH's busy time at work (lots of late nights and weekends), so it will definitely be later than that.  If we do go anywhere, it will probably be a long weekend somewhere within driving distance (maybe the Poconos or Baltimore.  Possibly Ocean City if we feel up to it, but I don't know how I feel about putting my pregnant self in a bathing suit just yet!)
