Abdominal recovery from twins/ polyhydramnios

This could probably go in the general postpartum area, but was just curious how those of you who carried lots of extra mass like me are recovering.

Do you feel like your recovery feels any different from other pregnancies (if applicable)?

Do you have any sort of plan for postpartum recovery?

I'm only 1 week pp, but I can already tell that my core is not going to recover in its own the way it did with my 1st pregnancy. I'm only 5 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight, but I currently look like I'm 5 months pregnant, and at this point with my son my stomach was squishy but flat. My back hurts constantly and I'm way too weak in my core to wear my baby in the wrap, which is killing me because that was my lifesaver with my son.

I suspect all the extra fluid has caused me to have a pretty bad diastasis or possibly other damage to core muscles as well. My 2 week pp checkup is on Tuesday so I'll ask my midwife what she thinks then. In the meantime, I ordered an abdominal splint and am looking into possibly doing some physical therapy to recondition my core and hopefully minimize some of this back pain. It's bumming me out not to be able to pick up my toddler or wear my baby, so I really hope I'm able to work through this.

  • No experience but I'm sorry you're going through this! I'd definitely look into options for PT.  I dismissed so much as "normal" after DS and it didn't serve me well so I'm getting a referral this week because of pelvic pain. Trying to care for myself! I remember my midwives recommending planks for core work, but of course get yourself cleared by the providers who know you!

  • I saw this thread originally, but couldn't comment at the time.

When I left the hospital I was already down 20lbs, having gained a total of 32lbs. Now I am 3weeks PP, I haven't weighed myself though. I can get into my pre-pregnancy clothing, but my stomach is really flabby. Also, there is an area up by bottom of my ribs that hurts when you press on it. Could just be my organs shifting back into place. I'm not having too much back pain.

I thinking i need need a belly binder or something like that.
