Success after taking bcp for two months?

Hello Ladies,
I was wondering if anyone had success after taking bcp for two months. I never took bcp in my life before but my obgyn recommended that I take it for two months to help me regulate my cycle and also balance out my hormones. I have super low progesterone and my period has always been very irregular and very long cycles in between. I did provera for two cycles and I did get my period both times after taking it.. But my Obgyn thinks that bcp would be more effective for me since it has progesterone and estrogen. She doesn't recommend me to do clomid before trying out bcp for two months. Anyone here was told to do that or any success stories or insight?
