NEWCOMERS:

To be added to the Weekly Checkin, please answer the following:

1.  How long have you been TTC?

2.  What is your diagnosis?

3.  What is your current treatment plan?

QOTW: This week is a riddle: "They have not flesh, nor feathers, nor scales, nor bone. Yet they have fingers and thumbs of their own. What are they?" No googling, come up with your best answer. First person with the right answer gets bragging rights for the week!

ANSWER FROM LAST WEEK'S QOTW:   Apparently people who fold their gum wrappers tend to be "organized thinkers" who are more detail oriented and methodical and work well in structured situations.  And people who crumple gum wrappers lean more to the 'creative thinkers' mindset who can think outside the box a little more easily but may need more variety or spontaneity in their tasks at the job.

I have no idea if this is true or total hogwash...   I actually neurotically dispose of my gum wrappers by crumpling them first, then I open it back up and fold it into little squares before throwing it away. Every time.  When he saw me do that, he was fascinated and told me about it.

Hi Ladies! i've been so busy with work and just plain exhausted ... I miss coming here and need to make a point to visit daily :D

I did my first round of clomid.... didnt feel any side effects while I was taking it but then lately i've been super exhausted and today i've had a headache that just won't go away.. i don't know if its tied to the clomid or just a coincidence

tomorrow i go in to the RE for a follow up to see if the clomid worked.... I have been ovulating on my own but he hopes this will give me a little push i guess lol we'll see... if all is well we will try with TI this month...

tomorrow is also my 4 year wedding anniversary - so i'm super excited to celebrate that ....

  • TWW 3dpo here, pretty good timing, -4,-3,-1 I think Or -3,-2, O if FF is correct, either way pretty good.
Is anyone else tired of TI? I'm just so done with it.

I'm just praying this month (13) is the one... We're going home for memorial weekend (we go home 2-3x a year), and I'm going to tell my mom about our IF. I'm hoping I'll be able to tell her we're PG instead, but I know the chances are slim.

Looking forward to my oxytocin & progesterone check next week (who says they're looking forward to a blood draw? Especially when I have to fast, and not eat breakfast for 4 hours after waking... It's a strange world we're in)

QOTW - I got nothing... I think @MrsM00re87 's answer of "gloves" is the best one yet.

  • Hi ladies!

I had my follow up appointment with the RE this morning to go over all our testing.

    DX is MFI.

From here, the RE wants DH to meet with a urologist to discuss the SA and see if any causes for the poor motility and morphology can be pinpointed and then probably repeat the SA in a couple months after some minor life style changes the RE recommended and whatever the urologist recommends. Right now DH's counts aren't where the RE would like them to be for IUI, but IUI is still possible, or we can skip right to IVF.  For now, we're just going to see what the urologist says and possibly pursue IUI.  We can't afford IVF right now, so that isn't really an option for the time being.

QOTW - I say gloves too!

FX to all the ladies in your TWW right now!  I hope there are a bunch of BFP's soon!
  • @ReesaAnne16 I feel you on the whole being done with TI thing.  It was really hard on us and still is.  I think a lot of us here can relate to that.  I hope this will be your last month trying for #1.  You certainly did have good timing! :)

I'm sorry about your diagnosis @jojomama25.  That's our diagnosis too and we've been through it all... urologist appointments... DH on meds... what feels like 100 SAs... IUIs... disappointments... etc.  I'm here if you want someone to talk to about all this!!

I had no water since 11 PM the night before my hysteroscopy @ReesaAnne16 had some juice at 3 PM. Threw up the next day in the morning and after lunch. Feel better now that the antibiotics have stopped. AMH has dropped since the last time I got it tested. Prolactin is high- 34. Will test it again in a couple of weeks. Am taking medicine to time AF. • Day 14 for me today. I've been back to the RE clinic 3 times now with no sign of ovulation as of yet. I've seen a different nurse every time and they all word it a little different. But they all do say my bloodwork and lining all appear to be progressing normally and I should not worry, this is just going to be a longer cycle.

In other news...I've lost 21 pounds since March and that gave me some excitement this morning!

@jojomama25 that is our diagnosis as well. The urologist we were sent too was mostly useless. But there is a lot of things my DH is doing on his own to hopefully boost his numbers. (Vitamins, acupuncture, change in diet, change in underwear choices etc. )

@reesaAnne16 I am ready to tell me mom about it too, but there aren't a lot of times where my Dad isn't around and DH doesn't want my Dad to know we have MFI. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can tell your mom some exciting news instead!

    @harleyquinn0621 Happy Anniversary!!

@Ducks&Cats I think the fasting is for the prolactin portion of my bloodwork, I'm not sure about progesterone alone.

Plainjanie Ugg I know, I really don't want to discuss all of this with my dad. I'm planning to take my mom out for a belated mother's day brunch just the 2 of us, and I figure she can tell my dad in her own time if she wants. Even though we aren't technically MFI, I think we do have some male factor involved, so I'm not even going to mention that part. My poor DH has a hard enough relationship with my dad to begin with, so it certainly wouldn't help things.

  • today's appointment went ok...the DR saw three eggs that were a good size. he did mention doing an IUI but he would want to do it tomorrow- ..... i'm really frustrated he sprung it on me so last minute. i'm also frustrated with my insurance co as they said I have a 6 IUI lifetime limit which I have not used but told my dr office that i was covered for diagnosis only and no coverage for IUIs :s  so since i have to fight with my insurance and I dont have the cash right now for the IUI we are going to move forward with TI this month..and I will spend the next few weeks fighting my insurance company... if i cant get them to pay it at least it gives me more time to get the money together so either way we can move forward with the IUI next cycle

sorry @harleyquinn0621 that is frustrating...it is good that you have some IUI coverage though. I wish I had something but it's all cash- even diagnostics. Maybe that TI will be all you need with 3 eggs, GL!

  • @harleyquinn0621 I have no idea why most insurances are so against covering anything IF related, or you have to fight with them if they do. So frustrating!! My body obviously isn't working the way it is supposed to... therefore it is a medical condition. I'm paying a fortune to even have insurance incase of medical issues, and still paying for anything IF. Whatever.

Had my HSG this week and all was clear!! Continuing on with a round of Clomid, and then switching to Letrozole if this doesn't make O any earlier. The clomid side effects were kicking my butt this week.... exhaustion, mood swings, headaches... oh my. Glad to be calming down from that a little.

I have "Full benefits" through my work. But I read the paperwork again the other day and they mention three things that aren't covered. "Weight Loss procedure, Erectile dysfunction procedure and Infertility." A skinny woman with 17 children wrote the book I'm sure!

  • I got my new thyroid results this week, my TSH is down from 7+ to 2.8! So the new dose seems to be working much better, but I'll be getting more bw in 3 weeks to see how much more it goes down or if it stabilizes. My RE ideally wants it 2.5 or lower (I'm hoping it will end up closer to 1), so he wants hold off on treatment again this cycle (we already missed the window for clomid anyway). Right now I'm waiting to O, we'll try naturally this time although we know there's not much of a chance. Crossing my fingers we'll get to do IUI #2 next month. We go on vacation next week so that should help the rest of the month go by quickly :)

Good luck to everyone, hope you have a good weekend!

  • @lablover78  oh i know.. i wish it covered more, like IVF but I am def grateful that it covers anything at all.. i've had no issues getting all my diagnostics covered and grateful that they do cover IUIs..... but it seems like it will be a fight to get them to make good on that benefit lol

Plainjanie ugh i'm sorry.... does it cover diagnostics at least?

i can kind of understand the plans that don't cover IUI or IVF but i really don't understand the plans that don't cover diagnostics at all....

so i finally got a hold of someone with my insurance that seemed to know what was going on... after giving them the billing code they confirmed it is covered....but needs a prior auth.....more hoops to jump through. So she was nice enough to call my Drs office and let them know... but i'm nervous because even tho I like my dr....his office staff is not the most organized....

the nice thing is their cash pay price for an IUI is only $298.00 .. and from what i've searched on google that seems like a really good price.. so if i have too much trouble getting the office to submit the prior auth..or it gets declined i'll just pay cash next cycle... but then after that i may set up a consultation with the other RE in town that takes my insurance because overall I have not been super impressed with his office staff

  • @harleyquinn0621  I'm sorry this has been a frustrating month for you, hopefully the TI will work out anyway :)

Did you find out if anything more is included in that quote for $298 besides the IUI? Other costs would include meds, (oral & trigger if rx'd) and monitoring ultrasounds, which really add up. I think we were quoted close to $1000 per cycle once you included all those extra costs other than the actually IUI procedure

Anyway, It's awesome that your insurance covers IUIs, so fingers crossed it all works out with the insurance you can have your IUI next month (if needed)

@ReesaAnne16 thanks for the info! :) I asked if it included everything with the IUI....my exact words were will there be ANY other charges during the IUI cycle..and she said it included everything.. except the clomid which is only $5...  he doesn't plan on using a trigger (this would be my first round of IUI so I have no idea when a trigger should be used vs when it doesn't need to be used) .... ultrasounds are always billed to my insurance and they said they would continue to bill those with the visits..... he has done an ultrasound every visit (5 so far from april-present) and i've never had to pay out of pocket thankfully
My Re's office does things kind of weird.. their lab is not contracted with any insurance..so if the insurance covers the IUI i would have to pay the lab out of pocket for the sperm washing and stuff..... but that would bring my out of pocket cost down to $60 + visit copay of $30... so right under $100 instead of almost $300...and every dollar saved helps! lol

  • @harleyquinn0621 I can speak a little to the trigger shot issue, just from having done 3 IUIs now and getting to know a bunch of others in this community (primarily on the IF board).  Most REs, mine included, use trigger shots for every IUI cycle, no matter what.  Once you have mature follie(s), they have you take the injection at 8pm and schedule your IUI for 2 mornings later (about 36 hours after injection).  They do this so they can time the IUI properly.  Other REs only use trigger shots if there is an ovulation issue, otherwise they have you use OPKs (NOT with FMU) to determine when to do the IUI.  Once you get a positive, you call the clinic and your IUI is scheduled for the next morning.  This method doesn't seem to be as popular a practice, but is done at some clinics.

  • @wifeinraleigh28  thanks for that info! perhaps because I am ovulating on my own he doesn't feel like he needs to use a trigger shot....if TI doesn't work this cycle I am supposed to call them on CD1 next cycle.. i think i'll ask about the trigger shot... it seems like that would be the best way to know for sure when I am going to ovulate.... does anyone here pay out of pocket for their trigger shots...any idea about the cost?

@reesaanne16 he is known to be the low cost RE in town.. but i'm starting to think there is a reason for that low cost...his office staff is really disorganized which is why i think i'm going to try one IUI cycle with him and then have a consultation with the other RE my insurance covers.... sometimes it's not worth the low cost if you are not getting a good experience... i feel like every time i go in i have to tell them what we did and what i've been taking and basically tell them what our last visit was... it's kind of frustrating

I don't have a tonne of time to post this week....but I still want to say GL to everyone still waiting and those who are about to start a new cycle! Sending baby dust to all of you! <3

I'm 14dpiui today and took a $ store test and got a BFN. It was quite difficult for me as this is the first time in over a year that we even had a chance of a BFP as I was finally ovulating, but I am trying to focus on the fact that we are celebrating 10 years together today, and we are going for a hike today and a nice dinner tonight.

I'm going for a beta test on the 24th to confirm with the FS, but I'm quite convinced that this cycle just didn't work out. Looking forward to the next cycle, although the stress of finances through another cycle keeps impeding! I do think that taking tests before the beta did help prepare me for a negative, and I feel that Tuesday would have been much more difficult otherwise.

QOTW: I think you all have it with glove! Good call!

  • Had to take provera again because I didn't get AF on my own. Did worse on 100mg clomid then I did on 50mg so I am back down to 50 and the lovely migraine side effects are in full swing.
My fiancé I guess is starting to realize that I'm getting frustrated over the fact that I'm not even ovulating. So he's being extra hopeful and doing things like putting extra money into savings which is difficult for us because I just lost my jobs and he'll randomly say a name and go "I really like that" or "I hate that one"
  • Thanks for the the thoughts & kind words @Worldtravler0522 @Plainjanie and @wifeinraleigh28 I think we're going to take it all in a bit before we start putting money on treatments - and DH is going to the urologist for sure - he got a letter about all the supplements and changes he should make.  It can't hurt, right?  DH seems more to be in denial about it all or that the supplements and stuff are a magic fix, so it's been tough.  We are going on vacation on Wednesday for the holiday and I am really looking forward to the break and getting away.

@wifeinraleigh28 - I am very sorry about your BFN, sending good thoughts your way.  I hope the massages at least were a nice distraction for a little bit.
