TTC After a Loss

Anyone took BCP for two months to regulate period and conceived afterward?

Wondering if anyone conceived after taking bcp for two months to regulate period and also reset ovaries to balance out hormones.  I did provera for two cycles but my obgyn feels that taking bcp might be more effective in regulating my hormones. I was wondering if anyone had any similar experience.

I don't have any experience with this. Perhaps trying this question on the Trouble TTC board or IF board may generate more responses. Everyone here has experienced pregnancy loss; some may have had difficulty conceiving but that's not the common thread among us.

Edit to add: @MrsDramaK's suggestion is better. Definitely need to ask someone who is already knocked up. I didn't really think that through before I posted.

  • I am 100% sure you were already told this on the TTGP board, but I'll say it again.  Go to the first trimester board, that is where you will find women who are currently pregnant and may be able to help you with this issue.

  • I second PP. we are not the success stories you are looking for.
  • Sorry about that. I am new to this and I realized after i posted it that it wasn't the board I should post on. And I wasn't sure how to delete the post. Apologized for that.
  • No worries, @porche123. Good luck to you.

I took BCP for one month after trying to conceive unsuccessfully for 5 months after a surgery.  As soon as I finished the BCP, I conceived the next month!!  My daughter will be 3 next month!

  • Good to hear that! Happy early bday to your daughter! And thank you for your reply! Definitely giving me some hopes.  :)
  • I've had a doctor recommend this to me in the past. I didn't do it at the time but I'm currently on the pill while benched and I'm hoping it will reset things a bit. Good luck to you.
  • @iceandsnowflakes29 That's good. Are you taking it for two months or planing to take it a bit longer? Good luck to you also.

I haven't done this, but I may actually think about it if my RE/OB suggests it. My hormonal system was all messed up after my first loss and my body did all sorts of weird things when it was trying to regulate itself. I had a super long cycle where my body revved up to ovulate 3 times before actually releasing the egg- I got pregnant, but it was a Triploidy loss at 13 weeks. I was in such a hurry to get pregnant again the last time and this time I'm all about taking my time and getting a good egg. I cannot overstress the virtue of patience in this process. If your Dr recommends it, then you definitely consider it even if it sets up back a few months. I would do anything not to have gone through the agonizing second loss that has not only set me back some significantly physically, but also emotionally.

@chloe97 I am very sorry for your loss. :'(

Yes, definitely going to listen to my doctor if she believes that would be more effective for me. But that two months wait is so dreading especially if you want something so bad. I always have irregular and long cycles ever since I had my period when I was a teenager, and it didn't bother me at all those times since who likes period, right? And it also didn't even come to my mind how difficult it would be when I try to conceive now that I am older. I wish I would have took bcp earlier in my teen years and early 20s, maybe then things would be easier for me right now.

I wish you good luck on your conceiving journey and don't give up!
  • @porche123  my loss was 3 months ago. I've been on the pill 2 months. Medically speaking I'm free to burn the bench now but, I'm still very nervous to try again.

However, I agree with chloe. Taking the time to take the break has worked wonders on my mental health.
