I have told many of them already because some of the students are not coming back next year and have asked me if I will be back. And the answer is no, because I will only be subbing next year due to the baby. They have been quite happy. I think some of them were anxious about friends not returning and they were reassured that there is a non-ominous reason someone might be not there :-)
I haven't told mine yet... The main reason is because I teach special Ed and have 3-5 grade so half of my students will be in my class again next year. I don't need the parents freaking out... Not quite yet. Maybe the last day of school lol. There is one parent in particular that loves routine as much as her son...
I was thinking the other day that I actually probably won't even tell my students this year. I teach kindergarten and there are only 13 days left of school. I'm only 12 weeks today and have my NT scan on Friday, so we're not even announcing until the following week sometime. If the kids hear it around that last week though and ask, I'll say something, but at this time I don't plan on doing a whole class announcement.
I teach kinder and I have told my students. They overheard me saying something to a coworker and started asking so I told them. They are super excited about it!
My friend's husband is a teacher.. her last two kids she had in March and april. She was off for 3 months and then he was off when she went back for the whole summer. Talk about a good deal! If you're fortunate enough to be able to plan that anyway.
Thanks for sharing ladies how you are handling it. I am 12 weeks and my belly is definitely popping out a bit. I teach 2nd grade and a few of my students have been staring at my belly. One of my girls asked another teacher if I was and another one of my girls asked me in Friday. I had a kindergarten girl ask me when she saw me on Friday. At first I thought girls were just very observant until a second grade boy from another class asked me! Lol I definitely thought they wouldn't notice yet, but I was very wrong! We still have 4 weeks of school left however I am thinking I just need to put it out there. I know with me telling them comes with parents asking questions, something I wanted to avoid until August.
Last time around, I was a second grade teacher and I told my class right at 12 weeks (I was due in August so that was sometime in late Jan/early Feb). I know some of the first grade parents were worried about me not coming back after my leave. In the end, they were right to be worried because I ended up quitting during my maternity leave. Oops.
I told my 3rd graders and they could not have been more excited! I got "can we vote on the name?!" And "does your husband know?!" Hahaha also "you don't look like my mom did when she was pregnant." We have 17 days left, not that I'm counting! It felt good to tell my kiddos and many of my friends were saying congrats so I really had to .
I'm a 3rd and 4th grade special ed teacher and 14 weeks pregnant. None of my students have noticed yet but I think that's because I've been wearing loose clothes to cover it up. Thursday was the first day I wore a tight shirt and I saw one of my more observant students eyeing my stomach. I haven't told them yet and I'm not really sure when I plan to. I'm afraid because I'm not coming back next year and I don't want to have to tell them that now.
I told my students the same day I told the staff- when we got our harmony results back. I won't be returning there next year, but I teach special education and wanted to let my students know why I've been so tired.
I'm a college professor and I told one of my classes at about 13 weeks. I teach adapted physical education to future physical education teachers and we were talking about students with Down syndrome. I was able to use my ultrasound to show them where they check on the neck as a potential predictor of down syndrome. It was pretty cool to be able to use my pregnancy to enhance what they were learning (:
I'm with @BLyn627. I teach Kindergarten, and there are 8 days of school left. Even though I have somewhat of a belly, it's not enough to be really noticeable, so I'm not telling them.

I stopped teaching after my first 2 years ago. Was a specialist when pregnant with ds so saw all students k-5 once every two weeks. Never said anything to students until about 6 weeks before due date when we needed to start wrapping up some of our projects. Many acted shocked despite the fact my belly was huge by that point.

I'm a college lecturer, so our time tables are a little different. My seniors just graduated without ever finding out. I am teaching this summer, so the students will certainly find out, but they're old enough they should figure this out themselves, lol, I don't plan on an announcement or anything. I do plan to tell the people I work with either this week or next per the request of my boss, who is the only one that knows right now and needs to start figuring who will be covering for me Nov & Dec.
One of my kinders outed me to some others yesterday. His mom is on staff and she and I talk, so he knew. They were playing an iPad game during technology time which had a mom with a baby, and he turned to me and said 'look, it's just like you!' And the other kids were all 'what? It is?' LOL I don't mind, they'll figure it out soon anyway.
I teach kindergarten and told them just this past week. I was taking off for a doctors appointment (I had no intention of telling the kids since I wasn't really showing and wasn't having the baby this school year) and told them I wouldn't be there the following day. Well, like most 5/6 year olds they wanted to know why I was going to be off and then what kind of doctor I was going to. I didn't want to lie so I just told them I was having a baby. They were really sweet and excited. One child said "you know they are going to have to cut that baby out of you". I was so thankful that he said that and not something else! I answered most their questions, like, when is the baby coming, what is it and when will you look big. I told them to stop in the next school year and visit. I figured after that it was probably best I told them. We have a final week field trip this Friday and I think some parents would have noticed. I would feel bad with some of the kids knowing but not telling them all. Good luck with the rest of your school year!
So interesting to hear each of your perspectives! I know they will take it well, I think I'm just over thinking it. Hope you all have a great end of the school year!
