Old Wives Tale: Gender prediction

Has anyone tried the necklace gender prediction test? The way it works is you put a ring or a pendant on a necklace and hold it still above your belly. If it moves side to side, it is a boy. If it moves in a circle, it is a girl.
Also. If you hold the necklace above your hand, it will sequence all of your children's sex. Past and future.

I have been doing this since middle school (slumber party game). The outcome has always been the same - B,B,B,G. I have a son already, then lost one, and now I'm pregnant with twins (fairly certain this is my last pregnancy). I get a STRONG B,G over my belly.

Anyone ever try it? If not, please do! How accurate has it been for you? I know there's no way to really know how true this Old Wives Tale is - but they sure are fun to try

Re: Old Wives Tale: Gender prediction

  • So your necklace changes direction to indicate B/G?

I've heard of this. One of my girl friends believes in this kinda stuff she did it to my SIL when she was pregnant with my nephew and the prediction came true with 2B 1G. It's a fun game to play, wouldn't rely heavily on it.

  • My grandma did this for me and she said she's never been wrong. I got a boy! That's been my gut all along too.

  • Mine said boy (although I also tried holding it above my hand and it just swung back and forth a million times... So apparently I'm having many many boys?).  The Chinese chart said girl but according to the heart rate "theory" it's a boy.  I guess we'll see....

I recall doing this with both my girls. Honestly can't remember exactly what the outcome was. This one swung side to side and DD1 ways it's a boy. My gut says boy but I've been dreaming of a little man since my first pregnancy so be learned to not over annualize symptoms and theory's. DD1's HR was always low. DD2 high. Craved citrus and carried DD1 all put front and nice and low. Great skin no MS. She's all girl. For DHs sake I hope this little ring thing is right. Not so sure he can handle any more estrogen!

  • I just gave it a go and it went side to side. The Chinese gender predictor as well as the heartbeat myths also both point at boy, fingers crossed! We're hoping for team blue over here :-)

  • Oh my! That was fun. I got boy on my belly and then tried the palm and it said B,G, B, B...it didn't stop haha.
My first two pg ended in mc, and I know that the second was a girl. So it seems that I will be a boy's mom, haha we shall see.

Haven't done the ring test yet, but DH asked me to do the baking soda test...girl! Not a single fizz to be had. We would be thrilled with a girl, but with no MS or acne, I guess I assumed boy. At least I know it's a baby, right?

@uromys I am sorry about your loss :(
That's so interesting that you felt great with your daughters! My mom was incredibly sick with me, but not with my brother. It's really true that every pregnancy is different and every body is different. Since I'm a FTM I have no experience to base this pregnancy on, but I've been having a lot of fun with the wives tales. :)
  • Ring on the belly said girl, as does the Chinese Chart, and over the palm said boy then girl. The Chinese predictor chart was wrong for ds, so the palm thing could be right? I'm hoping team pink because I want one of each, but I think brothers would be so fun too. Dh thinks this one is a girl because of how sick I am all day, but we will see. I have a feeling I am team blue again though.

  • My friend felt totally fine with her first boy and super sick with her second boy.  She was convinced it was a girl because she felt so different, but no.

Whatever gives you acne though, that's for sure what I'm having.  Yikes.

Same here! You are not alone on that one. I haven't done any gender prediction except the Chinese gender chart. I really don't want to set myself up for disappointment. I know most people do it for fun, but I just get too much into my own head over it, I think. I'm excited to see if any of these work for you all! :)

@PrettyPalamino Okay, you're going to just have to keep your facts and statistics and truths to yourself. I don't want all of the baking soda I just wasted to be in vain! ;)

  • anyone heard of the hairline test?  it only works if you have one child already...your child's hairline at the nape of neck predicts your next child's gender. if it goes straight across, then your next child is the same gender. if it comes to a point, the opposite gender.

DD2's hair is straight across, so I should be having another girl.
I checked DD1's hairline, and it actually comes to two peaks on each side, kind of like devil-horns.  DD2 is definitely a manipulative little girl...
so if LO is another girl, I would say this OWT was 100% accurate,

    lol, all in good fun.
unless people really believe in this stuff???!!!
in that case, want to buy some of my magic beans?  guaranteed to give you the outcome you were meant to have!

    Reply:

This us my third pregnancy and no old wives tale has ever been right for me. I've tried everything. Its always the opposite! This time, I am just going to be calm and wait on my ultrasound. Praying for a BOY though! (I have two girls :))
  • I've got a new one!  According to skull theory I think I'm having a boy.  (Really I can't actually tell if it's "rounded" or "angular" but I think more angular.

DH is convinced I'm having another girl since I'm so sick again. I need to try the necklace trick.

So I've been debating sharing this but it's fun! Good wives tale (theory) for those who have had early ultrasounds and know their placenta placement, The Ramzi Theory. Ramzi method states that 97.2% of males implant on the right side of the uterus. 97.5% of females on the left. So you would really need to know what you are looking at on an ultrasound, some may be mirrored, or of had your tech mention it. So far it's been spot on for my last two pregnancies. With my MMC baby was implanted in lower right. Genetic testing confirmed that was a boy. DD2 had implanted on the left. She's all lady. This pregnancy we found out two weeks ago placenta was forming on right. My gut has had me thinking boy since the day I took a test, but I also don't like to be wrong so I'm trying to ignore it.  :p  Regardless it's a fun theory to try and kibosh.

edit: it's too early for words.

So, I tried these just for fun. Gender prediction chart, ring over belly, and baking soda test all say boy. We'll see.

I haven't done this yet but I will be doing it, my plan is to do a bunch of the old wives tales and see what they predict vs the actual outcome of the gender/sex of my baby :) it's fun but I'm not going to rely on it

  • If you keep track of all the OWT results you could do a poster, and then announce the actual sex of the baby. Like this:  then the next 'slide' would be actual sex.
    This is super cute!
  • Ok, I've done the baking soda test four times. The first two, no fizz. My hubby was suuuuuper bummed because he wants a future little hunting buddy. (I say, who said girls can't shoot guns?) So I did it again, twice, and got boy fizzies both times. We're not having twins so I'm stumped.
  • Ooh, @Kate08Young I've been SOOPER clumsy, mostly happy, and sickness-freedom far. Totes a boy! ;)

  • Okay, I told myself I wouldn't make any predictions, but FI's mom is convinced it's a girl. Heart rate of 164, placenta is more to the left, plus my Chinese gender chart said it was a girl. US picture shows placenta more to the right but they told me it was the opposite because of the machine. I know FI is wanting a boy. I don't think he'll be devastated over a girl. Guess we'll have to wait and see what we're having. :)
