Nursing Clothes

Ladies - I need some recommendations!

Nursing tops

I bought three nursing tanks from target pre-baby. Now that my milk is in, they are boobtastic. I have no idea the size of my boobs right now, but I'd be willing to guess DDD or bigger. On the flip side, my stomach is getting smaller by the day, and minus my chest, I'm probably a medium to large depending on fit (I prefer things a little looser). The XL target nursing tanks are too small on the top, and too big on the bottom.

Any recommendations for nursing tanks and other tops that make nursing easier while lounging around but also good for when guests stop by to meet the baby considering the gigantic boob vs. medium to large size everywhere else. I've never been a small strap tank top kind of girl. For me, comfort = thin cotton v-neck j crew t-shirts. Unfortunately, those just don't work for nursing. Anything comparable in the nursing world?

Nursing and Sleep Bras

Ugh. So, I bought a couple of the target Gilligan & O'Malley seamless nursing bras that aren't too bad during the day, but my hormones are causing hot flashes at night, and the fabric (nylon/spandex) does not breathe. The XL seems to be a good size for me in these if anyone needs a boob size reference.

I ordered the Kindred Bravely Terry nursing bras from amazon that came in yesterday, and the fabric is AMAZING. It breathes so much better, but it stretched out over night, and it wouldn't even hold my bamboobie pads in place. Also ordered an XL. Ordered the XXL too just in case and decided to keep them to have bigger backups, but after the XL couldn't keep things in place last night, I feel like I wasted money on the XXLs because I went ahead and washed them.

Any recommendations for breathable fabric sleep bras that don't stretch?

Also, what are you ladies wearing when you go out of the house bra wise? We're doing newborn photos on Sunday, and there's no way my wire nursing bras I was wearing while pregnant are going to fit my chest right now without damaging my milk supply.

Re: Nursing Clothes

  • I wish I knew. I ordered nursing bras and tanks online. I'm fairly small frame but always had giant boobs. Pre pregnancy I was 34h. During pregnancy it jumped to at least J. Now, who knows. Sometimes it's a gamble to buy online but I've always had great results with figleaves. Just be aware the sizes are EU so you'll want to make sure you size correctly.

  • Bravado via Amazon. Their tanks come in bra sizes and they have their original nursing bra in double plus (meaning more boob room!) which I find to be comfortable to sleep in.

I love the ones you ordered off amazon. I got the medium because DD while "normal" pregnant and nursing. Right now mine are busting out since milk came in and they are bigger, but they won't always be once my supply has regulated (based on what happened last time for my own body). Hence the medium.

I also have have a medical issue and have to stay warm and covered so I layer. I use either the bra you got from Amazon when lounging around the house (love the fabric, but seems more like a sleep bra to me) or a bravado nursing bra for other times (expensive but worth it as I nursed into toddlerhood last time) then a nursing tank top (I use a Gillian one from target and have used others, including bravado and Motherhood Maternity, when my cup size regulates I will try some other Amazon brands) then a plain comfortable thin ladies t-shirt (old navy, gap, target, etc.)

That way I stay warm but baby has quick access. Also I am super comfortable and if in public the layers made nursing super discreet without having to use a cover.
  • I have the same issue with the Target tanks. So much boobage! My solution is to wear scarf to cover my cleavage. I even have a couple of nursing scarves so they have a double purpose. Then when I'm not around people I take it off so I'm not hot.

I love wearing soft v-neck tee shirts too and I found this Bun Maternity nursing tee to be very similar to some Gap v-neck shirts I have.

(They sell some Bun Maternity stuff on Amazon as well!)

  • @par13 That looks awesome. Do they only have it in a maternity version?

In my experience many nursing tops and dresses are designed for maternity and nursing. I've only had issues with stretching out too much if I wear them in the end of the third trimester.

@missnc77 It's marketed for both maternity and nursing. I've worn it a couple times over the past few weeks and it stretched over my belly well. I haven't used it for nursing yet since I haven't had LO, but it has a double layer top that I think you just pull down the top V layer and pull the bottom layer over to the side.
