High risk ultrasound?

sorry if this has been posted, I couldn't find other similar threads.  My doctor called me yesterday and said my blood test showed ans elevated risk for DS 1/136 and I need to go to a high risk doctor for an US and further blood testing.  Has anyone has something like this? My rational mind knows the risk is low but I've been a hot mess since I got the call and they won't even be able to work scheduling my appointment until Tuesday so I have no idea when I'll be able to see this doc.

Re: High risk ultrasound?

  • First of all, I'm sorry that these results were presented to you. I understand how you feel bc I went through it with my first trimester bloodwork (1:45 risk for DS). That being said, know that these results are just a risk assessment based on your age and result levels, not a definite. 1:136 is a .7% chance. When you do schedule with the high risk dr, they should also set you up with a genetic counselor who can discuss the options if you want to pursue further testing. I know this weekend and time until you can be seen will seem like an eternity, but hang in there! My thoughts are with you.

  • Thank you so much for your reply.  I kept calling and badgering them and got it scheduled for next Wednesday so I'm glad I won't have to wait longer than that.  They said after the ultrasound and looking at my medical history they will either recommend further testing or say we're good to go.  I'm sorry you had to go through this too! The waiting game is the worst part!
