Infertility

Only one embryo made it..

I am so emotional.. I should be happy i know but if this doesn't work it is over. I spent thousands and only one.. Others had missing or extra chromosomes.  So now she said three weeks until transfer??? why so long??  Is there any thing to do for my body during this time? I want to give it the best chance? Is working out okay? should i just take it easy// any foods that help? I know pineapple day or two after transfer right?? If you have any advice please help. this is my only attempt at this.. so scared.. I take my last BC pill today then i start the estrace monday..  i thought it was two weeks but she said three.. :( can't take this waiting.

Re: Only one embryo made it..

  • Hi there. I know how you feel, I was in the same boat. Started out with 19 eggs at retrieval, then 10 fertilized and after PGD testing we had 1 normal to transfer, 1 came back undetermined and 1 was abnormal. I was really upset, but there's nothing you can do, so chose to be positive and hope that the 1 you have sticks! I also had 3.5 weeks between ER and transfer, so I took it easy, ate better and relaxed as much as I could. I really hope the 1 you have it THE one for you!

Get busy. If there's anything you've been meaning to do, do it now. Anything to take your mind off it. Go to movies, hang out with friends, read 20 books.

Make a plan for both outcomes. If it's a failure, have a plan for what you're going to do/how you're going to cope. It always helps me to have a plan in place and fall back on.

What worked for me was keeping in mind that I've done all I can - it's all out of my hands now. It's either going to work or not. No amount of worrying I do is going to affect the outcome.

Anyway, I hope you get that BFP!

Hello @runner76. I can certainly understand your disappointment.  The good news is that since your one embaby is chromosomally normal, it will have a great chance to growing into a healthy baby.  I'm also doing PGS testing, and I'm prepared for some of my embryos to have problems.  But, the reason we do it is to give the healthy ones the chance to grow without implanting the ones that are not viable.  I'm thinking about you.

  • @runner76 I think I remember you said you sent 4 embies for testing...and I think you may be around my age (39ish?)...one out of 4 normal embryos is actually amazing!  Around the age of 40 only 10-15% of our eggs our chromosomally normal so having one out of four make it means you beat the odds.  This is good news!!

Prayers for you.  I also had a lot of abnormal / extra chromosomes in my embryos.  However, it is great that you tested so that you have that healthy one that will give you the best chance for a pregnancy (and successful pregnancy).  Best of luck!!!
