Epsom Salts

So...after soaking in who knows how many Epsom salt baths over 3 pregnancies...I see the new bag I bought says "Do not use if pregnant or diabetic".

Uhhh....what?

Re: Epsom Salts

  • Whoa what!?!?! I do this! Gotta be a mistake...?

  • I think it's just a disclaimer. Other sites say to soak in the salts. There are cases in which it is frowned upon and should be discussed with a doctor.

  • The thing is Epsom salts can be used orally as a laxative. It's my understanding that it's saying to not do that. I've taken a few Epsom salt baths for soreness and I say go for it.

I've been doing the baths, also. They feel so good!!

  • I'm pretty sure it's just one of those "you can't do this because you are pregnant" disclaimers. I Googled multiple things last night- not one pointed towards it being unsafe!
  • I specifically asked about this and the doctor said it's perfectly fine for baths!
  • I think that just might mean don't drink it as a laxative. I've taken Epsom salt baths this pregnancy to help relieve back pain.
